Also probably because datamining and such is a lot easier on PC than a console.
console players NEED preload, because you have to keep in mind they do not have an ethernet cord connected to their console, and they are stuck with Microsoft's absolutely abysmal download speed servers.
It will take around 8 hours for this game to download using xbox servers. On steam I can download this game in under 10 minutes.
also I dont think its to deter datamining, the files you download from the xbox app preload are encrypted by microsoft, it would take an inane amount of effort to try and do anything with those files, and be largely pointless when its only a week or so from launch.
I get 700kbs on a good day.....
Let's say it took two days to crack it, for instance, then right now preloading would give players like 9 days early instead of preloading two days early giving them access on release which wouldn't be much help for people. People pay a ton of money for 3 days head start in all games even single player ones, so I don't think it's that crazy for it to be about that.
Also don't want people just spoiling everything in there if they have a ton of time to dissect it before the players can even touch it.
Most people do have an ethernet cable plugged in to their consoles and the download speeds are just as good as on pc a majority of the time, i don't get from where you are pulling that info from.
Oh wait i found the sauce:

This is why I'd like to preload also.
You know if you're going to respond with something you should probably not spout off complete garbage. I play on both PC and Xbox. The small group of friends I have on Xbox, every single one of us connects via ethernet. And on my gigabit cable connection I'm often downloading at 700 to 800 mb/s using Microsoft's "abysmal" servers. I've even had it go to 1.04 gb/s occasionally.
Next time respond with something you actually know about, cuz this wasn't it.
????
We are rarely ever left out. Are you new to Steam? For Steam it is ALMOST ALWAYS 48 hours or less, because though it's encrypted it is technically still possible to crack the preload with enough time so as an added precaution they wait a bit longer than consoles.
You're not going to die. If it takes you longer than 2 days to download a game, you have much bigger problems. Also, for many people in first world countries that don't live in the outbacks, you may well spend more time unpacking than downloading the full game anyway.
What are you talking about? My xbox and PS5 both have an ethernet cord?
