Which is better, the character creator in Dragons Dogma 1 or Dragons Dogma 2?
I herd people saying on these forums that Dragons Dogma 1 has a better character creator? I want to know how many people truly believe this and why? I want to hear actual arguments just so I am not strawmanning anyone, please leave your comments below.

Well. you have to keep in mind dragons dogma came out way back in 2011 so its very dated and terrible by todays standards. options were even more limited on those crisp ps3 graphics. 2 is a night and day difference.

I know but some people are claiming that the character creator in the first game was better, I want to know why they believe this?

Just in general way more options, more hairstyles, all limb sizes could be edited, better hair color and skin tone choices. It seems some of the older stuff was just changed to silders but those silders also have a hard cap and some don't even look like they do anything. good example is ears you could make really long elf ears in the old one, new one doesnt reach the same.

It was more modular, the fact that now you need to choose a base head and edit that to fit your taste is quite ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Don't really care for the loli stuff.

In dragons dogma there was more variety and you could pretty much make anything you wanted. This game has a more realistic character creator which is higher detail in some ways but you can only really make a realistic human or beastren.

So what you are saying is the character creator in the first Dragon's Dogma was better because you had more control over your face shape instead of having to pick a base shape from a number list and having to tweak it from there?

I vote #1. I liked the base faces, longer hair styles better. But most notably the voices! I tried to pick out a voice for my gal but all I get to hear is grunts and giggling. My male pawn (Yes a few of us make one of those shock) At least those voice lines said something to get a better impression on what you are going to get. The eye and hair colors need to be brighter or more of them. They are too muted.

A common problem with modern games is that they show screenshots of graphically impressive character models & say the character customization is good but then you play the game & watch videos & realize the custom characters mostly look either very similar to each other due to unnecessary limitations or intentionally hideous as a joke.

Like the custom characters in Baldur's Gate 3. They look great but they're barely customizable at all. Same for Fallout 4 unless you make a monstrosity on purpose.

Have you tried the DD2 character creator? Is what you said really applicable here?
The first game is better unless you like to create abominations. I've seen some very funny racist caricatures.

In what way is the character creator in the first game better? It is not enough just to state that it is, the part I am truly interested in is the why part. Why is the character creator in the first game better?

I just spent 3 hours in the creator today making different characters. I didn't even know about the height limitation since I never make short characters to begin with, but I was extremely disappointed by the low number of options you actually have. I feel like the first game let you make more ridiculous characters and just had more options in general. The character creator in this game is definitely better than Baldurs Gate 3, it's better than most Souls games but it doesn't reach the potential that was promised. It's weird how a BR game like Naraka Bladepoint has better facial customization than this game.

Can you create your own characters in Naraka? I thought you could only edit existing characters?

In any case boot up the original Dragons Dogma and tell me what options are missing from DD2 that are in DD1, you can FEEL however you want but unless you can actually describe how DD1 has more customisation options than DD2 your feelings are objectively wrong.

They're deliberately holding back content in the character editor to validate the hairdresser unlocking new hairstyles and to sell you DLC colors and hair styles.

Dark Arisen is better anyway until then.

I am getting tired of explaining this so let me put it in the simplest way possible

Your opinion is worthless unless you can actually state why you feel that way. How is Dark Arisen better? What makes it better?
