No, because archer only uses the bow and arrows in DD2. The rogue/ranger as in DD1 doesn't exist now. Fighter/Archer/Mage/Thief are the starting classes now.
Shown on the reddit the fighter gets a skill that lets them enchant their shield ala MK. So some of the now defunct classes got rolled into others.
Every ranged character should have some kind of melee option though. The Ranger in DD1 was basically the archer of that game, it was just an Advanced vocation there. Most of it's power was in the bow, and the daggers were just there to give enemies a swipe when they got too close to you and get them to back off so you could take some distance. I do worry what archers will do if they get mobbed in DD2 without a melee option to push them back or knock them down.
