Why include Dragonborn in DnD? They're just psuedo dragons minus the wings, and in some cases minus the tail too. My point? Why do anything at all? Because you can.
They have some lore and gameplay tweaks that brings some interesting playstyles to the table for starters. And just because you can, really? With that logic then they might as well included a lot of different animals just to fill a check list. The kitties bring nothing unique, they just as well could have been humans and nobody would notice.
And that's kind of my point. The Beastren have their own lore and culture.
Yes, due to they being portrayed in a very flat way (like most races until their game came out), but otherwise did ES do this ♥♥♥♥ way before it became stale. The first part passed me by so that's on me, but the cats are still generic as hell.
Just think, Dragon's Dogma 3 is going to add Dwarves next. Dragon's Dogma 4 is going to add playable Saurians. Dragon's Dogma 5 will add playable goblins....
Well that's the world we live in eh? Elves, dwarfs and bloody wizards. Tolkiens work remains untopped as it greets a new dawn. At least saurians and goblins would provide something besides just another generic human stand in.
Oh, but it gets better. There'll be lions, and tigers, and bears... Oh my! The Saurians will undoubtedly have a more humanoid appearance if they make them a playable race.... You know it's true. The goblins, I can see your point of view though. Every race in ever genre has lore, has a specific culture.... Stop complaining. Nobody is going to force you to place a race that you, and probably only a small handful of the community doesn't like because they feel it's nothing more than a "generic stand-in"
My point still stands: Nobody is forcing you to use or play the race.
As do mine: What do they bring to the table?
Simple: Something other than being forced to only play a human character. Honestly, why does it matter? Catfolk, Goblins, Lizards, etc.... There's only so much "new" you can spin on ANY race to begin with.
Eeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhh.... I'll concede the the birds, mice, and squirrels.... "Wabbits" is a little played out, as it is with most other races : / I refuse to play a bird or mouse though. Something that ISN'T seen in games, however.... Dogfolk. I think that might have been a better fit for DD2, but that's not my decision to make xP
