Can your main pawn die permanently?
Or will they be respawnable from a rift like dd1?

They will always respawn at a rift stone.

When they die, they will just be gone from your party. You can always resummon them from a rift stone though. You're right, they did not shy away from perma killing characters, but that's just NPCs that aren't tied to the main story. Anyone else, with the exception of pawns can be perma killed.

If they die in battle (you fail to revive them when they are downed) or in the brine they leave your game. But it's not 'permanent' if you want to include summoning them again in the rift as an exception. But that might aswell be considered permanent since they go back to their online player with an average rating and a rock as gift.

Not to mention the summoning process takes time, around 2 mins if you speedrun it and they are in your friends/favorite list.

Also you had to pay the rift crystal costs again if they had an higher level than you

Unless they're friend pawns. Those were always free for some reason.
