Is the 1st or 2nd RF better?

Just saw they went on sale, debating which one is better overall? Any of the people that have played care to share an opinion?

the 1st one is better, its much more fun then the 2nd. they under did the 2nd with new crappy guns, and made the awesome destructive mapsfrom red faction 1 undestructable which made me drop the game entirely. its fun to make a giant tunnel in the game on multiplayer and snipe everyone with the Rail Driver , or just shoot volley a stream of rockets to an enemies face and destroy their base and half the map with it :P so yeah if you want to full red faction experiance , i suggest the 1st.

I preferred the first one back when I had both on the PS2. One of the selling points was the whole geo-mod tech which allowed for destructible environments, which was scaled back in the second game.

definetely the 1st one, the second isn't even near and dosent worth even a single $ for me, you can also try the 3rd installement it was quite fun as single player, haven't played the 4 one yet.

Yes the 1st red faction was ground breaking allmost at the time, when perfect dark was out, and the 2nd red faction was trash.
Not only is the 1st 1 better, it's great.

red faction guerrilla would have wiped the floor to other games if only you could have played online through the whole mars map, kinda like gta 4 , so yeah guerrila is a fun experiance too for ultimate building destruction physics, if your interested

I liked them both.

Both games were a lot of fun to play in splitscreen on the ps2. Over all I think I've played RF2 a lot more, because it had a lot more multiplayer maps.

On the pc RF1 wins hands down though.

The first is by and far the best, the second one had a worse story as far as I'm concerned and there wasn't as much cool destructable stuff as I remember either. Not played RF2 in a while I'll admit, but thats cos whenever I want to play a RF game I always remember how much fun RF1 was and how RF2 was more a case of *Its a RF game I WILL complete it!* but I wish I didn't have to

The third one would have been WAY more fun if there had been more buildings and more cool weapons. The issue I always had was it was so hard to find cool stuff to destroy until you reached the last area (eos I think it was called, not played in ages) and even then there was restrictions. Those 2 GIANT towers for example, you could sort of destroy em.. but it was more the girders that could be destroyed and that was hard to do.

The 4th one as far as I'm concerned is a joke.. the weapons took a turn for cooler with the magnet gun and plasma wave but it became WAY to linear and hardly anything you could destroy which almost stopped it being a red faction game. The key element of RF is you destroy stuff, they should make another open world with more stuff to destroy and go whole hog on stupidly insane guns that are fun to destroy stuff with.

Dood. The first Red Faction has to be one of the best games games out there. In the very first level of the game take one of those C4 looking mining charges (the yellow ones) and throw it on one of the guards when he's by his other "friends" and see what happens. The AI in single player + the destructible environment make the single player such a diverse game; I played threw it multiple times and never once had the same journey. Don't even get me started on the MP Bro!

SinglePlayer- RF1
Multiplayer-RF2
Reasoning: Though RF2 doesn't have online play for multiplayer it DOES have bots which comparing to RF1's nonexistent community really help the game move along.. However RF2 is linear garbage compared to 1.. 1 is gold, 2 is like fake gold, still pretty and has some charm but just not nearly as good.

As for PC vs Console versions get RF1 for a console if you can, the geomod destruction is much better.

This game is fun! I've only started granted but it seems fun as hell. And the MP is active, nothing major, but some are playing
