The reason for why could be either it’s more of a SOL story so character development wasn’t a big focus or because this is, from what I’ve heard, technically the first in a trilogy that only has one entry so far (also heard the other entries haven’t released because Nasu got busy with Fate/Grand Order) so maybe the major character development will come whenever the rest releases.
Yeeeeeeee, she is. She’s actually referred to as Aoko-Sensei by fans with her Tsukihime/Melty Blood appearance due to how different she is from normal Aoko. Honestly one of the things I was most excited to see in Mahoyo was how Aoko became Aoko-Sensei… That excitement was crushed.
I’ve never played Grand Order myself, but I agree, I’d also love to see Nasu make more works outside of the Fate series.
Also, my experence with fate grand order:
Grand order is pretty fun, I went in expecting it to be an absolute cash grab. And what I found was actually not bad. When you think of gacha games, it generally conjures up people spending large amounts of money, gambling to get a character. And I thought it would be something like, you need the highest rarity characters to beat the game. 1 star, 2 star, 3 star and even most 4 stars will be useless and just there to make it harder to get the 5 star you need to win. That was what I thought it would be and I found that even 1 star characters (hi Sasaski) are usable. And the story of the game is pretty good (at least the stories by Nasu). Honestly I would recommend checking it out, as long as you don't have an addictive personality or gambling problems. Or if you just view games with gambling as morally wrong in which case you were already going to stay away from it. I also liked that it even gets characters like Shiki (knk) and Arcueid. The game is also clearable with just 1-3 star servants which is nice. For the first few months I spent no money on the game and had cleared almost all of part 1 of fate grand order.
Ooooooooo, I see. For me I’m just very selective on which few gachas I play, although I might play it once I get more into Fate’s expanded universe (for context, I’ve only read S/N & H/A and watched Zero). It’s good to hear it isn’t a cash grab or anything like that. One of the advantages of playing a gacha late, assuming at least 3 star units are still being released, is that you have a bunch of 3-star units to work with with all sorts of quirks/mechanics compared to when the game was released, most likely.
as for fate go and it's expanded universe, you don't need any prior knowledge to get into fate go. I mean obviously fate stay night and HA will help so you've got that covered. You don't need to know about fate/type redline, or fate strange fake, or fate apoc to get into fate go. As for units being released. yeah units are still being released, right now there are around 400 playable servants.
I counted the number of servants in each rarity (by hand so sorry for any mistakes)
There are 156 five start servants
https://fategrandorder.fandom.com/wiki/Category:5-Star_Servants
Therre are 167 four star servants
https://fategrandorder.fandom.com/wiki/Category:4-Star_Servants
There are 50 three star servants
https://fategrandorder.fandom.com/wiki/Category:3-Star_Servants
15 two star servants
https://fategrandorder.fandom.com/wiki/Category:2-Star_Servants
12 one star servants

Some of the 2, 3 and 4 star servants you get for free by just playing the game (the game just gives them to you without needing to roll for them). There is a 2 year gap between the NA version of Fate go and the JP version, which seems like it might be closing up soonish so the NA will be much closer to the JP version. But this means that us NA players can look at the JP server and do some cross referencing to find out which events are coming to NA and when.

Anyway for what you were saying about 3 stars, they are all useable. Every single one of them. Cu Chulainn (lancer and caster version) for example has some the best servivability in game and is a 3 star. Medea (caster) can almost constantly remove buffs from enemies and is a 3 star. Medusa (rider) is a wave clearer and has good burst damage and stuns enemies and is also a 3 star. And even the 1 and 2 stars are good for their own reasons even if their damage is low. Saint Geroge is a 2 star rider and he is one the best tanks in the game. Hassan of the Cursed arm is a 2 star assassin who generates crits easily for the team and has great surviability and chip damage. Han Christian Anderson and Mozart are 2 star casters that give a variety of buffs to the team. In fact there are youtbue channels out there like Honkai Green that show you can beat every boss and challenge quest in the game, just using 1, 2, and 3 star servants. When you start the game you also get given at least one free 4 star unit from any of these servants

And when you clear the tutorial you get to pick a 5 star servant for fere. I can't remember who all the options are but you get people like Waver (yes from fate zero), Arotira, and some others. So even if you don't get many 4 or 5 star servants for a while, you can basically start the game with at least one 4 star, and one 5 star servant. The game also starts out very easy. Some would say too easy but when it first came out there was no real way to make your servants stronger so the game started out so easy that you could press random buttons and win. It got consistently harder as you progressed through the stories but never to unfair degree. If you want more information, feel free to friend request me and direct message me.
That's good to hear that it's beginner-friendly, although I think I misconveyed what I meant. I meant more so that I need to see more of Fate's expanded universe because I don't have the incentive to play FGO, and seeing stuff like Apoc might give me the incentive to play it. I tend to be selective on which gachas I play, maybe too much so at times, lol.
And damn. O_O That's a lot of servants, I didn't even know that many existed. I thought it was around 50-100, maybe around 150. And yeeeeee, one of the few gachas I play has the same thing, it is so genuinely helpful for planning on which banners to save for.
Yeeeeeeeeee, the 3-stars and some of the 2-stars sound like extremely good units. O_O And damn, even the challenge quests? Those sound difficult, that's a really respectable dedication to clear them with just 1-3 star units. I've seen summons in gachas that gurantee a 4-star/5-star character (some gachas have a maximum of 4-stars for units), but never outright being able to choose a unit, that's insanely generous. O_O I'm surprised you can get Saber and even Waver right from the get-go depending on who you choose. And yeeeeeee, I've seen that in gachas and sometimes it's the worst part for me, starting out too easy (although, sticking with it is sometimes worth it when it gets more difficult).

I would say that my favourite writers, from most liked to to least are: Nasu, Higashide, and Sakurai being my least favourite. But Nasu stories are overall the best I feel. The stuff he writes after the tutorial are honestly comparable to fate stay night and some say even better than fate stay night. The storeis not written by him are not bad per say, I actually think anything written by Higashide are rather good (ignoring what he did with Apoc, we don't talk about that). But that is what got me to play, because I love type moon stories.
Also people don't give Higashide enough credit, he wrote one bad story with Fate/Apocrypha and now that seems to be all people remember him for. Fate/Apocrypha was an overly ambitious plot with way too many characters and was way above their skill level. It also butchered Jeanne D'arc's character and gave us the most uninteresting mc. But aside from that specific story, everything else the guy has written is really good. It also did Karna (Hindu sun demi god) and Siegfried (German dragon slayer) dirty. Astolfo, Karna, and Achilles carried the show.
