we can say it is the basis for then reading tsukihime, kara no kyoukai and fate stay night so it would be good if you start from it first. (you don't need anything else)

It's actually more or the less the first thing you should read from type moon. That's not to say you HAVE to start with this. But it is actually a very good starting point.

You can read this on its own. While it is technically connected to Fate/stay night and Tsukihime lore-wise, the story is entirely self-contained. As a matter of fact, the original draft of this story was written back in 1996, before any of Type-Moon's other works were published.

It's more like the seed of a story, and later works will appear with characters or worldviews inside

It's a prequel to Tsukihime / Fate Stay Night and The Garden of Sinners, but those two series are in different continuities.
