Steam Deck fix - VIDEOS INCLUDED

big thank you to the visualnovelwiki community for figuring this out, particularly the members in the Discord who contributed to this. here is how you can fix video output in Witch on the Holy Night.

EDIT 2: Valve has made this Playable via Proton Experimental with one big caveat - the videos still do not work. You'll need to go through a bit of extra effort to get them working. Updated instructions below:

1: download codec.sh from here; https://github.com/b-fission/vn_winestuff/blob/main/codec.sh and make sure you have Protontricks installed from the Discover flatpak store

2: add PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to the launch options. do NOT use a GE version.

3: run the game once to make sure the prefix is generated

4: open up Protontricks, select Witch on the Holy Night, select default wine prefix, and then run a commandline shell (for debugging)

5: once this shell is open, type: sh <path to codec.sh here> mf
and you should see the window start downloading some files.

6: once this is completed, go back to the game and try it again. the type-moon logo and audio should play, and the video should no longer skip.

This works, Also fixed crashes for me. I'm now getting repeated popups in Japanese Which google translates to "Screen manager detected error [0x8000001E] in requested command [0x00000005] do you want to continue proccessing yes/no" clicking yes continues the game.
any ideas how to fix this?

I have not been able to replicate this yet. Have you found any specific trigger or point within the game when it happens?

Yes it was happening during "Night of the Witches 14" a heavily animated section. I'm now on chapter 5 and haven't had a popup in 30 minutes

Okay yeah I got the same pop-up during one of the witch’s night sequences. I’ll look into it but this may be one of those errors we have to just ignore… we’ll see.

You likely missed a capital letter, If codec.sh is in your downloads folder you would type sh /home/deck/Downloads/codec.sh mf

Thank you. This finally got me something other than No such file or directory. However, now I’m getting permission denied also.

I didn't run into this issue, But other people have with other games on protonDB
Try giving codec.sh or downloads folder Read-Write permissions

I get permission denied no matter where I put it. Finally got it by using Sudo for some reason, anyways it said no executable was found. Also when I try Proton tricks it says my version of Wine is not supported. I followed exactly. It says 6.3 is not supported.

If you get permission denied error, try execute this:
chmod +x /home/deck/Downloads/codec.sh

(use you path to codec.sh as arg if it's different)

Hopefully wee get a patch to fix this issue soon though. Shame it isn't working on Deck out of the box

I am seeing the exact issue too.
I tried the same instruction for Proton 7 and 8 as well, no luck :(
