i mean i have those codecs for a reason oO
and now another game comes around the corner which cant play Vids with my codecs...
some more insight would be nice. since the stuff i watch is never wmv i couldnt care less if it is ok to just disable some codecs for wmv. but that did not help *sigh*
will try to find a workaround -.-
edit:
its NOT the LAV Splitter. Installed Codecpack without it and still no videos.
Would be nice to know more :/
i use Sharks007 codecs pack. cause this pack enables the WMP to list MKV files in his library and so on. i will search for those directshow filters.
If I remove the LAV video decoder from the enabled filters, the video in the steam directory won't play in media player classic.
And with or without codecs, the game jump straight to the "automatic save" splashscreen.
Frankly I have no idea how to "follow the steps" given before, since Olivier didn't tell us to disable any filters, he just explains how he removed some glitchy something that I don't have on my Codec Tweak Tool. Then some other peoples tells that they disabled the LAV and that it fixed the video for them.
I have 3 entries in the "video" section : ffdshow, LAV and On2 VP7. In the x64 section, I have only ffdshow and LAV. No filters are disabled.
Sorry if there are any confusions, I ustalled the K lite codec following some user problems, the way I solved it for me was to use the "codec tweek tool"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\K-Lite Codec Pack\Tools\CodecTweakTool.exe"
... and try a few settings, I noticed that when disabling LAV, the problems were gone.
I am not an expert on codec nor a coder ( a hardware builder yes), so I cannot explain the why and how it works.
I can only say : this is what I did.
For sure on other codec pack there are probably to "codec tweak tool", so i cannot help you on how to tweak your other codec packs.
The way I fix things are by eliminations.
try to uninstall your codec packs, and see if that works.
If it does not, then it is not about your CPks...
If it is well... you have tweaks to make...
Beyond that I cannot help you more, I am around if you have questions, but there are so many software factors on so many kind of pc...
As a reference here is what I have :
using the "codec tweak tool" that came with K lite.

pfffff man this took a while... I whish i could screens..
Anyway, I hope it helps.

I hope it does not mess up with some of your video playbacks.
Do this at your own risk (yeah its the disclaimer part...) ^_^
I reseted all my settings once more to try it for you guys :
After the reset : Video where not playing.
I disabled in the video settings of the codec tweak tool : LAV video and now it works.
The list form before is what I have now, working.
All my personal video are working normally.
(on Nvidia Card)
Good luck guys.
(sorry about the _ the post didn't took my "space bar" formatting)
Ha one last thing for "blub" :
In all case (with Klite installed or not, and with tweek settings the original video in the game folder ALWAYS works)
(with WMP and WMPClassics)
So Blub : if the video doesn't play at all, your problem lies somewhere else...
just install ur codecpacks and DONT use the recommended settings. without those the ingame movie will work and u still can watch MKV and let them show up in WMP :)
(tested on Win8 64bit)
(I don't have the DLC, so i cannot help you)
As someone mentioned the videos use VC-1 for video so in tweak tool go to "Preferred decoders" scroll down and change VC-1 to microsoft. Game videos are back and videos still play fine in Zoom Player.
