Real Tone Cable Issues
So I've been enjoying my time playing Rocksmith, but had constant issues with my Real Tone Cable. Running the game on a Windows 7 64-bit laptop, sometimes Windows won't recognise that the cable is plugged in (often the case when trying every USB port, 2.0 and 3.0), or it will work fine for a while in-game and then just stop working in-between playing songs. Sometimes it works with no issues, too. This issue shouldn't be anything to do with my guitar, as I often get the "not recognised" messages come up when only the USB end is plugged in.

I've looked around online and found that there have been quite a few posts regarding similar issues, but with no clear fix (at least, not one that has worked for me). Due to the issues being quite intermittent, it's quite tricky trying to pinpoint what the problem is. I know that there's a no-cable fix out there, but I'd rather not use it if I can avoid it.

I've been hoping to buy Rocksmith 2014 while it's on sale, but this might mean having to purchase a new real tone cable as well, as the issues are now beyond annoying. Is it worth buying a new cable along with the 2014 game? Chances are that my cable is just faulty, but I'd rather not have to buy a new cable along with the new game if it turns out that I don't need one.

If anyone else who has had issues with the cable could recommend a course of action, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Same here the cable sucks. I have no issues what so ever with other interface like line 6 or focusrite but unfortunately RS does not allow so they can sell there cable. I would pay the price of the cable alone for a patch allowing the use of a quality interface. In mean time I go to control panel device manager, under the usb unplug and replug till you see it recognize. Its a cheap ass junk cable. I notice it sits loose in the USB slot. Does anyone else? Should be recalled but wtf? im glad they put this game out. On the other hand no issues with bandfuse but then again thats being used on and xbox. I did hear people using a third party patch for pro interfaces. Try the device manager thing. While your at it you might want to put shortcut to desktop or under start menu for just that alone to avoid having to look every time. Good luck. and as far as RS is concerned they should patch the damn thing allowing decent interfaces to be used. Even web based guitarbots.com allows them all, not to mention Guitar pro and guitar tricks, etc. there are lots. Noticed RS lowered price big time. People dont trust paying a lot after reading they have to buy inferior hardware when we are used to using good stuff. I understand they had to sell it to the board based on projected revenue including cable but.... Marketing get on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stick, do some research, do your stupid focus groups telling them the truth based on cable quality and complaints. Sorry for the Rant, I hope someone at RS will get it. Good luck man.

I had all sorts of problems with my cable until I purchased a powered usb 2.0 hub. Someone suggested it on the ubisoft forums and I spent less than 10 bucks on amazon and it works like a charm. I hope this helps

You do own the ubisoft realtone cable, correct? It doesn't like USB 3 generally. Some people had luck turning off XHCPI or whatever the USB 3 option is. Sometimes it is a problem with the power saving software of Windows. You need 100 mA of current to power the cable. So that can also be an issue. Some have better luck plugging into USB ports in the back that are on the motherboard.
