Milestone is a live service team. Have a look at their games and you will see the same game copied time and time again but every new one has maybe one or two improvements - I can see the jumping and upgrading look like a definite improvement.
Here's the kicker though - they are charging the same price for this game, and you have to purchase all of the cars you had in the first one all over again. As many players posted feedback during the first game's launch regarding bug fixes, opinions on making it better, giving us something to do in the basements, adding liveries and possible trading, FIXING the multiplayer lobbies - not ONCE did any member from Milestone EVER respond to ANY of the community.
Just Announcents and new packs out now! That was it, that was all. No one ever NOT ONCE suggested the racing aspect of the game change other than the balance for the cars themselves. (who races Snoopy against the fastest cars etc.)
So while optimism fell hard early on, and those pre-order FOMO only cars eventually came along with micro transactions, seasons passes were scrapped simply because no one bought into them, and tracks were cool but left racers wanting more.
GOTY comes along and guess what? Every car pack, track piece, all nicely packed up into one cheap cost and EVEN landed on GAMEPASS for subscribers to play for free.
So now..think about what they are doing with turbo - I see BTTF and KITT and the TURTLE Van but hey guess what, I already have em - why can't I transfer at least SOME of my vehicles over or maybe just MAYBE a sequel with the same cars should oh IDK be connected in SOME WAY after all, it's not 'look at our brand new game because we now took away all the thing you spent the year working towards and now give you...what, three environments and a gamba roll the dice instead of high cost loot boxes for back to back garbage trucks?
If you want to have fun with the game, that's totally great and I actually admire you for trying to see the bright side of Milestone. But they have a history of these tactics and will continue to do the same thing they've been doing for a decade. Make you pay multiple times for the same thing without and with features.
Try and be careful out there in this live service meta we all play in now.
Because you brought the hotwheel car from one game isn't suppose to transision to the next game.
Say you brought Monopoly that comes with tokens you use to move around the board, but you brought a second Monopoly, it comes with the same tokens,
The Tokens don't change even if you brought the same Monopoly game.
