Doesnt work in DX10 anymore, fix

Played this game a lot both Steam and boxed version, tried it recently and cant get past the gsc logo, i get black screen, with the xrengine task running after game crashes.
Tried removing the user.ltx file, it reset all the settings, soon as i enabled dx 10 again, the crashes restarted.
Tried pretty much everything, nothing worked, both steam and boxed versions wont work with dx10 enabled anymore.

Edit: finally found a solution that worked: uninstall windows update KB 2670838, now it works fine.

Thank you. Deleted KB 2670838 and I'm able to play. Wasn't even able to cinfigure options before the game would crash. That damned KB cost me a game and mod reinstall.

go into Control Panel-uninstall programs. Make sure you tick the box to show installed updates. Look for the kb install, it's very generic, but will have the proper numbers the OP posted. Make sure you do an uninstall, then reboot.

Just yesterday I tried to get this game running on the same setup that I've been playing it on before without problems. Although I couldn't get it to work. Tried every possible fix I could find, but nothing worked. Tried messing with the sound settings in Windows (I'm using windows 7), removed the platform update (kb2670838) tried all the different c++ redists to see if that was causing it. Even tried a wide range of drivers for my gpu (660 ti). Nothing worked. Then it hit me.
MSI Afterburner. There's a conflict between the dx10 mode and msi afterburner in this game which makes the game either crash or not start at all.

Make sure you're running the game from the shortcut and not xrengine directly.
Make sure that you're not running msi afterburner or any other programs of the same type.
You might have to remove the "user.ltx" file once from mydocuments\stalker clear sky to get it to boot.

I'm late here but never had any real issues until this last month and boy, has there been issues. I found this update and done as suggested. So far, so good. If anyone cannot find this update, do as stated above and look for this date. KB 2670838 2/27/2013, that's the date in my update library it was installe. May not be exact for you but, it will be somewhere around that time. My system updates automatically so, that was the date showing for me.

Should have deleted this thread long ago, but forgot completely about it.
The issue with this update has been fixed by microsoft a long time ago, so basically this particular update does not create anymore problems.
The update is needed for quite a few things, including a certain version of internet explorer (forgot which, been a while).
The fact your game started working after you uninstalled the update is very strange, could likely be a coincidence.
The update reinstalled on my PC over two years ago and ive been playing all three games vanilla and modded, on dx10 with maxed settings, no problems at all.

Clear Sky can give weird problems sometimes, i had a few, but they were all fixed by doing simple stupid stuff like reinstalling the videocard drivers clean.

I keep getting video driver crashes and system shut-downs when, months / years ago, I never had this issue. This is for all the STALKER games other than, LA. It plays flawlessly for me on my system and it's more CPU / GPU extensive.

I think my CTD's are related to how long the game is running. More than an hour, I get ready for a CTD.
