How the f**k do you capture the bandit base in Garbage?
I swear I cleared the base three times and not one loner comes along for the ride. Everytime I leave to salvage, out pops another four groups of bandits in the depot.

As an offshoot, I told my fellow loners to f**k off - clean up your own mess. I'm going rogue.

NPCs will always spawn back at their base once you killed them all and cleared it. So no matter what you do, they will also be back :) however some mods can fix I do believe!

Yep - NP. Thanks for the reply. I got Freedom to capture another point east side of the map, near the flea market. The freedom guys asking me to assist taking over the flea market. Of course I declined. The unlimited bandits are bad enough to contain.

I'm not joining anymore factions. The system is broken. I don't mind unlimited respawning however I do mind when capturing the main base and the moment you leave, half a trillion armies exploded out of nowhere from the main base. Keep the base empty and have the enemies scattered...like harassing you and not having an instant army created the moment you leave.

Or better still, get your faction take over the base.

I understand you, the game system is confusing to begin with and then its so prone to bugging out.
Anyway make sure you capture the bandit base only when its marked as an active task, also helps if you do things in order, maybe there are some other faction tasks to do first in that area, and maybe there are not enough friendly bases around.
Also, more often than not you are asked to capture AND HOLD a certain base, and holding can take forever if there are no friendly troops nearby that would take it over and thus marking your quest as done.

Well I have to start the game again - I've done something stupid. The emission broke out and I saved the game at the worst possible time - about 4 secs to go.

At first I thought it was a lightning storm then something was different about this one. I got a quest telling me to go and search for cover. I didn't realise there was a specific cover as I just hid in a house.

Well I quick save it at the last four secs just to check things out...well that cost me big time. And I couldn't load a previous save as I only used one save slot.

Yep - loser = me.

The only time I ever saw the base captured, I had actually joined Freedom - we took over all the Duty positions around the electric train, and by coincidence a bunch of Stalkers took over the bandit base. Beyond that I never managed to do it as one of the loners, even though I was asked to clear out the base several times (and did so).

If I recall the loners sent to occupy the base ended up stuck inside a tunnel leading back to the Cordon - they were trapped at the edge of the level. My "squads" bar was full up as well, and my hunch is that once the bar is full your faction doesn't generate any more squads. From what I remember the only faction war that generally works and is worth the effort is Duty vs Freedom - Duty tends to wipe the floor with Freedom.

There's a fairly big reward just for wiping out the bandits, and you get to loot a trunk with two artefacts, so even if you don't actually take the base, it's worth attacking it once. You get a really good suit, a bunch of money, and two tickets to that thing you like.

@Ayearepee - yep there's a decent reward for clearing out the bandit's base. I scored a cool armour and something else (I think a decent detector - I love hunting for artifacts).

Ok, I'm going to join either Freedom or Duty. I haven't gone that far yet however if the game is more fun joining either groups, I'm going to do this.

And thanks both of you for the replies. Greatly appreciate it. I reckon Stalker SoC is one of the best games I have ever played and this one, CS feels a lot different - and I mean a lot different.

Oh - just to add something, yeah the loners only stay in two locations...well for what I have witness. Both are where you need to capture the two points when you start the faction war with the Bandits - the tunnel area and where the bus is...basically right at the start when entering the garbage.

There's another, near the junkyard however that point gets the pleasure of unlimited bandits respawning. So basically it's not worth the effort as it will be overrun.

That sux big time, and thats why you always make several saves in any Stalker game, always a good idea saving on a new slot from time to time, just in case, dont worry, we all learned the hard way too :P.
Also 4 secs on the in game timer is like 24 secs real-time, so you might still be able to save the day if you are close enough to a shelter (they marked on your map).

That's the other issue.

I was in Condon when it started. The loners all decided to camp in that small house, the one that seperates the two locations (Condon / Garbage - that checkpoint area). So I followed them only to be trapped in between the five loners. All five effectively blocked my path heading outside to the loner's base. So my options was to shoot the entire lot (wasn't a good idea) or head towards Garbage.

However Garbage 'safe' spot was the bandit's lair - yep the very same one I knocked off three times before. So there sits four packs of bandits, chillin out and laughing at me for being an idiot.

Not having much luck aye.

The game will mark the nearest shelter on your map like a mission marker, only the marked places can be used as shelters.

Actually, i was playing with Freedom and I could hold 1 day in their base. I killed all of them, and when the Freedom reinforcement arrived, they toke the place and Duty didnt spawned there anymore.

You have to be persistent.

Don't bother joining a faction after the swamps. Because when you join a faction you lose access to that faction's quests which will net you more money and upgrades. The bandits give loads of rubles for their upgrades but you're gonna have to refrain from killing every bandit that tries to take your money. Just run from that checkpoint unless you have less than 2000 rubles, then you can pass through and feel like you didnt lose much money.

The only reason to join a faction is to get your relation that faction maxed which means you pay the exact price for guns and ammo, and get more money from selling stuff with their traders.

I honestly used this "bug" to my advantage, every time I would clear them out like two or three times by landing nice headshots and then I would receive HUGE rewards from the Neutral Base trader back in Cordon. Easy moneyz

I heard if you go to the red forest, stalkers will begin to assault the depot.

Haven't reached that place yet though.
