I'm not joining anymore factions. The system is broken. I don't mind unlimited respawning however I do mind when capturing the main base and the moment you leave, half a trillion armies exploded out of nowhere from the main base. Keep the base empty and have the enemies scattered...like harassing you and not having an instant army created the moment you leave.
Or better still, get your faction take over the base.
Anyway make sure you capture the bandit base only when its marked as an active task, also helps if you do things in order, maybe there are some other faction tasks to do first in that area, and maybe there are not enough friendly bases around.
Also, more often than not you are asked to capture AND HOLD a certain base, and holding can take forever if there are no friendly troops nearby that would take it over and thus marking your quest as done.
At first I thought it was a lightning storm then something was different about this one. I got a quest telling me to go and search for cover. I didn't realise there was a specific cover as I just hid in a house.
Well I quick save it at the last four secs just to check things out...well that cost me big time. And I couldn't load a previous save as I only used one save slot.
Yep - loser = me.
If I recall the loners sent to occupy the base ended up stuck inside a tunnel leading back to the Cordon - they were trapped at the edge of the level. My "squads" bar was full up as well, and my hunch is that once the bar is full your faction doesn't generate any more squads. From what I remember the only faction war that generally works and is worth the effort is Duty vs Freedom - Duty tends to wipe the floor with Freedom.
There's a fairly big reward just for wiping out the bandits, and you get to loot a trunk with two artefacts, so even if you don't actually take the base, it's worth attacking it once. You get a really good suit, a bunch of money, and two tickets to that thing you like.
Ok, I'm going to join either Freedom or Duty. I haven't gone that far yet however if the game is more fun joining either groups, I'm going to do this.
And thanks both of you for the replies. Greatly appreciate it. I reckon Stalker SoC is one of the best games I have ever played and this one, CS feels a lot different - and I mean a lot different.
There's another, near the junkyard however that point gets the pleasure of unlimited bandits respawning. So basically it's not worth the effort as it will be overrun.
Also 4 secs on the in game timer is like 24 secs real-time, so you might still be able to save the day if you are close enough to a shelter (they marked on your map).
That's the other issue.
I was in Condon when it started. The loners all decided to camp in that small house, the one that seperates the two locations (Condon / Garbage - that checkpoint area). So I followed them only to be trapped in between the five loners. All five effectively blocked my path heading outside to the loner's base. So my options was to shoot the entire lot (wasn't a good idea) or head towards Garbage.
However Garbage 'safe' spot was the bandit's lair - yep the very same one I knocked off three times before. So there sits four packs of bandits, chillin out and laughing at me for being an idiot.
Not having much luck aye.
You have to be persistent.
The only reason to join a faction is to get your relation that faction maxed which means you pay the exact price for guns and ammo, and get more money from selling stuff with their traders.
Haven't reached that place yet though.
