Is this game worth playing without the "Complete Mod"?
I've read a bunch of comments that mention the game breaking crashes, deleted saves, etc. Is the game basically unplayable without the mod? This is the mod I'm talking about: http://www.moddb.com/mods/clear-sky-complete

Complete is awful http://pastebin.com/6AtetpMM

Some of those points are about SoC specificly, but for the most part is true across all 3 games.

Reloaded is more polished and functional than complete used it a few times. SRP is a popular well known bug fixer for CS (and the one I use the most). Had no issues with SOC or COP just use eye candy mods with vanilla gameplay mostly.

I played Clear Sky at release and had to begin 5 times till i could complete the whole f* *u*c*k*i*n*g game (about 4 patches were released in short time^^). With the latest patch, you can play through without game breaking bugs and corrupted saves if i remember correct.

I only know the complete mod and played through clear sky one time and had one bug because, i used the sleeping bag while a emission started, had to restart the game from the beginning.

I would recommend to install a mod which fixes script bugs etc. in the first place, graphic and sound mods have the second priority.

Ye man, Complete is definitely not what you're looking for if you want bugs fixed.

I recommendy SRP 1.03a (sky reclamation), it's a pure bugfix mod :

It also comes with cool optional components you can add/remove mid-game, for example ironsights for pistols, less frequent emissions, etc ...

Been using Arsenal Overhaul (http://www.moddb.com/mods/arsenal-overhaul-clear-sky) myself, tried Complete, but just didn't like the feel of the weapons. AO changes that by making them somewhat more realistic.

AO is a weapon focused mod, so that's primarily what it affects (also affects some armors a little bit, changes faction base audio, and incorporate SRP 1.03a and the sleeping bag mod). Pretty much what I was looking for anyway, I recall using something similar (a weapon overhaul mod) when I played SoC a couple years back. I just am not a fan of the combat when the games are unmodded. *shrug*

Does have a couple bugs though, notable one I noticed was that the Steyr AUG 3 crashes the game after you do the grenade launcher attachment modification to it (when you pull out the weapon, because the model lacks a variant with a grenade launcher attached, so just keep that in mind). Oh yeah, and one of the basic single shot only rifles (it's a semi-only variant of an AK, forgot which one) has buggy damage when fully upgraded (does way more than it should, so uh, if you don't like that, avoid that weapon).

If you just want a vanilla experience, I'd echo what others have said and just use the bugfix mod (Sky Reclamation Project), since all it does is fix bugs.

I've been playing it vanilla and it worked fine besides one issue involving a quick-save that would crash my game if I even clicked on it, so I lost maybe an hour of progress.

I've played SoC with Complete. Not a bad mod at all. I haven't tried the others though.
