I'm trying to figure out if you are serious, Clear Sky is "open" to a good degree but quests need to be done of course. It's sort of like Fallout 3 in having quests to do IIRC.
Best advice I think is go to Youtube and view videos of the gameplay.
Additionally you can garner alot of info on the game by reading thru the reviews on the Clear Sky store page http://store.steampowered.com/app/20510
Or by going to metacritic and reading thru the 391 reviews there.

.
What i just said was a side quest really nothing else is creepy about the game yea some creatures look spooky and stuff but really nothing is going to make you crap your pants and send you crying. its got a good atmosphere and its a good game. may be some scary parts but overall they are light compared to other games in the series

I don't think Clear Sky is scary. Best thinng for you to do is to follow the suggestions in POST #1 in above link, and go to YouTube and view walkthru's.
.
-Another side thing would be taking part in faction wars, trying to bring your faction to victory but that part tends to get bugged in some situations.
-Then there are the constant repeatable missions which you can grind for money.
-Getting good weapons and armors and upgrading them to the max. (need to find the right places to do so, find the necessary upgrade parts and have the status with certain factions).
So you see, theres a lot to do and discover besides the main mission and side missions.
