Also CS is more buggy than the other two.
If you didnt like CoP much, id say dont waste your money, just like the poster above said, use mods.
There are graphic enhancing mods for CoP and the sgm2.2 mod even adds a lot of areas from SoC and CS.
As for what to do in the game...you can do the main story mission line, or the many side missions. Talking to the people on the ship will get you quite a few lucrative missions.
Stalker games are free-roaming games with some survival elements, aside from the missions there is a lot to do, like figuring out how things work in the zone, exploring and discovering stuff, getting better equipment.
There is not so much sense of direction as in more conventional games and some players dont like that very much.
I played this game for a very long time at release, no problems. Recently when i tried to replay it, it was randomly freezing every 5-30min or so, i tried many things but nothing worked. In the end i installed the latest beta drivers for the video card and the freezing stopped. Its a long story but the problem might have been caused by my sound card, Clear Sky doesnt like certain Creative cards. The nvidia driver installation altered something in the sound card install and now everything works fine.
kaay, something is wrong with your download. I've just dled archives and the latest patch from moddb and both extracting and installing went smooth.
I have to admit that it looks fantastic, especially foliage and lighting - nothing like original SoC, it's quite taxing as well.
Unfortunately it's not very stable, just crashed :/
It might be because of the fact they stepped out of the line and offered the main game packed with the mod, i dunno but regardless, im a bit suspicious about this one.
This is strange, was that 1.3XXX version ?
I've just run an integrity check on the archives and everything is fine, additionally there's no password on them ( I'm sure about that :) ). If you're using 7z, then its checksum test for rar files is broken and should be only executed for the first archive in the llist (verifies all of them anyway).
I'm not going to bring all the backstory here, because you can find it in several places, but they had GSCs blessing to do what they did, actually they didn't include SoC in the download, it was rebuilt from the early alpha source code (I guess this is where the name comes from), It even has a DX 10.1 rendering path, which was not available in SoC iirc.
I read that LA is rather meh from certain point onwards - linear, scripted, etc etc. It's still worth giving a try in my opinion, costs nothing and it's fancy to see how potent a 7+ year old engine can be.
Its the antivirus scan that returned a lot of incorrect checksum messages.
Anyway i gave it a try, impressive graphic overhaul and level reworking, pity the lighting is borked, most of the graphic beauty is lost in bad lighting effects.
I installed the latest patch 1.003 or something like that and despite the changelog, the gamma/contrast sliders are still non functional.
Last but not least the silly agro distance seem to be copy/pasted from Misery 2.1.
What settings are you playing at ? I've maxed out most of the options, disabled grass shadows and motion blur (had an unbearable flicker with these two). Otherwise it seems fine gfx/shading wise (aside from contrast which is overly high imo).
Still, it's not stable enough on my rig to play it, seems to be crashing on various occasions and I think that dezowave has a savegame braking patch planned in the near future. I guess that I'll wait and see how it develops.
I reduced the sun rays because they were excessive and covering everything in a sort of haze.
After all this it looks better but still hard to see in certain places.
i dunno, the way the light is cast and reflected inside houses and in the shaded areas is lacking something, too much eye squinting and flashlight use during daylight time, the sunset and sunrise dont look the way they should, too much dark areas....hard to describe correctly.
Anyway so far no crashes, im at the rescue fox mission.
