S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky

What am I missing?
I mean, Shadow of Chernoybyl had a ton of flaws, sure, but the game was fun enough to keep me going and beat it. This game just feels like a chore... and that's being nice, it actually feels like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess.

The difficulty in shadow of chernobyl felt fair, they were smarter, but their weapons were the same as yours. In Clear Sky, I'm not even on the max difficulty, I'm playing Veteran, but there are people shooting me a hunting shotgun, and I can't hit them with a fully upgraded ak74... the difficulty just feels like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because you can't make up for it with skill, just hope your luck is good and you get a headshot. I literally had to try 20+ times to pass certain parts due to sniper shotguns.

I went to the army base in cordon which probably should've wrecked my ♥♥♥♥, but I had a bug where literally no one would shoot at me... so it goes from getting over intensely difficult, to being a joke...

the final straw was the first emission that wasn't scripted, and I need to escape. I first tried the huge pipe between the garbage and cordon, and I died... I then went back to cordon and stayed in that house that's part of the entrance to the garbage... I died. The quest marker tells me to go to the bandit camp to protect myself, which is filled with bandits... and maybe I would try to kill them but it bugs me so I put my weapon away whenever I enter the camp, as if I'm part of their group, yet they're still very much hostile with me.

Either way, game uninstalled, hoping CoP is much better. Anyone want to tell me if it's all a big misunderstanding and maybe I should give the game another chance?

On vanilla, maybe learn how good shotguns are? A hunting rifle is carrying me through the early areas with buckshot for up close enemies and slugs for anything out of my accurate shooting range for the pistol, wherein pure volume of bullets makes up for its mediocre midrange accuracy. Actually buckshot in this game seems to have rather tight spread, and be fairly useless at close ranges. So many times I have hidden behind a corner, shot at an enemy point blank when he rounds it, missed, and then he has dived back behind cover and called in allies before I can get the second shot off. At not quite point blank ranges it seems to fairly consistently drop bandits in one or two shots. At medium ranges, it still steems to consistently hit them.

Then again, having problems getting past the military base to get into the Cordon now. Even in the middle of the night, crouched as low as possible and moving as slow as possible, trying to keep cover between me and the base, I am still spotted the instant I go more than a few meters from the tunnel entrance. My attempts to sneak past on the north side have not gone so well, and I would rather not fight my way through the Stalkers guarding the entrances, even if I have decent confidence I could win. I seem to recall the north side having a small gap you could take to avoid the checkpoints in SoC, but that was years ago.

LOOOOOOL

good luck my friend, you're going to need it.

Don't tell people to learn about anything if you pretty much barely got out of the games "tutorial". You'll be dropping that shotgun too, and probably making the same complaints in due time (just to let you know, since I never used it in SoC, I actually tried to start with the shotgun in this game like you did, and probably said the same thing you did, until I actually started the real game)

The game has always been buggy since day one of the first release of the DVD v1.0. I rememebr on the stalker fourms (on another web sight) everyone screaming about that game. I have the patched 1.5 and it still has issues. They get to this patch and still failed to fix the trader file in Yantar, which is one of the reasons why it crashed in Yantar. There is 3 ammo names in the list that become available for Yantar trade in the trade_saharov.ltx on a probability. It is a typeo of the name of the ammo, so when it becomes available, the game crashes.

I had to unpack the dbase files and create a min mod to do the fix. Funny thing is, I also have the steam version which is the most updated fix version. And STILL I go unpack that dbase file and it is still not fixed. Other common complaints was the weapons were not acurate and there was a problem with upgrades too. like sometimes it worked, and some times it didn't. Not to forget the at times the endless jamming, its like when the gun jams, it always seems to jam un-realisticly, mainly when your under heavy fire at close range. The walk around with this was to swap out the gun your useing. like from your jamming long gun to your side arm then back again. Sometimes this helps.

In all three games I usally displace a lot when I get in the fight, never stay in one place. So do not anyone here get to you. Clear Sky has always had issues and problems. I been in the zone since 2007 of the first release of SOC as well as CS. And have COP, and all these are on DVD besides the ones I got on steam. I love all 3, and when Clear Sky is working like it should, the game is really fun to play. I had to make my own mini-mod, and I can not tell the difference between SOC, COP and CS when it comes to proper working game play. And CS is not mod friendly, mainly the dvd version. But since that dosen't work on win7 at all. And the steam version dose, I have played the game with my personal mod and CS played exalent! No crashes and smooth running..

So it is not impossable to fix it through mods, just only a few things that needed to be corrected.

yeah the game is a pile of junk as in preformance and gameplay. But once you sort out some issues, the game CAN run smoothly. I had a friend who test it and he enjoyed the game his first time.

I hear there is supose to be a mod up were fixes had been done too. May want to look around for it..

And I do play Master mode for all 3 with no cross hair..

hope any of this helps..

played through the game several times on Master....fav of the 3 stalker games honestly.

This game is about patience. If you're patient, the first half of the game shouldnt be a problem. I use the upgraded (for armor plates and durability) best Clear Sky armor basically until i get to the scientist bunker in Yantar...where i buy the Bulat armor, which i use until the end, unless i sided with Duty or Freedom and use an Exo.

The game really isnt that bad until you get to Limansk. From there, it's a nonstop dog fight, and i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love it.

And Admiral Awesome....check out my reviews on my profile for the 3 stalker game and see why i chose this as my fav. Alot to do with pacing and what not.

I like you. Clear sky has the atmosphere too. Very cultural and comfy.

The way i look at it....even with the SRP installed, your health very slowly regenerates in Clear Sky. Dont know why they put this in the game, but oh well. Therefore, i dont need a health artifact. The only ones worthwhile for me are Bubble (rads -6) and shell or snowflake (endurance). I only need 2 artifacts for the Bulat. Now if i chhose to have the EXO going to Limansk, then i have Bubble, a health artifact, and a bleeding artifact because the exo holds 3 containers.

It's so bad... I don't know what you mean by pacing or anything. I stopped paying attention to the story even, it was so dry. I don't even remember why I even was in Yantar in Clear Sky, because the story was just had no motivation. The mission has you protect the guys on the roof, I can't even remember why, but you don't even need to protect, them, you go out exploring, and you win the mission because they literally could not die. SoC had you p[ractice patience, it rewarded you for sneaking and using a silencer, I feel Clear Sky didn't do any of that. People instantly headshot you with pistols as if they were snipers. This was a problem in SoC too, but nowhere near to the level of CS.

Admiral...when youre in yantar you get a reoccurring mission to protect the scientists around the bunker. They CAN die. Once you complete the first objective to retrieve the documents on the hill, the last waves of the zombified soliders come out and you have to take them down. Once you do that, the bunker wont come under attack anymore.

The story is about trying to track down Strelok before he reaches the center of the zone.

If you read my review for CS, regarding the pacing, it's about how the better weapons and armors dont become available until later in the game. And, if you notice, the AI doesnt have the best weapons until later in the game as well. SoC may have taught you patience, but you could literally be a god among men 1 hour (or less because of an exploit) into the game by going to the Army Warehouses and picking up a G37 and an advanced Rad suit (with good bullet protection) found in the Wild Territory from a stash.

If anything CS should teach you MORE about patience than SoC because you cant rush ahead to get the best armor or weapons. You have to be patient until you're rewarding for your efforts.

I agree, the story isnt as intriguing and the atmosphere isnt as gloomy (except for the red forest), but the gameplay became SO MUCH BETTER in CS, that it makes up for the shortcomings.
