Don't stop bleeding
this is my first stalker game. I watched a couple of let's plays and started with version 1.5.10 and the latest complete mod.
After I helped fighting the bandits (?) at the waterpump station I walk to the church to continue my quest. I must have been wounded at the waterpump (though I didn't realise it at first) and now I don't stop loosing blood (life or whatever the red bar is supposed to mean). I use medikits and bandages, and though they fill my red bar up, it stills keeps droping, no matter how many medkits or bandages I use. As a result I usually die within a couple of minutes. So whar are you supposed to do to treat your wouds?

hmm.
It depends how strong your bleeding is.
If you can hear your heart beating you have to take more than 2-3.

Okay, thanks, that helped.

Yeah, sometimes the bleeding can be a pain more than it was in previous games. I feel like they should have made Bleeding a lot more temporary rather than permanently demanding over bandages like in Shadow of Chernobyl, but just a little bit more extreme.

if you find it too tedious to hoard all those bandages you can get an artifact that reduces bleeding
there's one in the garbage, thats about early mid game
until that you dont even get into any serious fights
also try to loot the military base in cordon once you get the sidequest to get something from there, in the back theres a chest with too much stuff in it

Hey, I'm still a beginner in this game and I really can't handle anomalies very well. So getting this artifacts is still rather difficult for me. :steamhappy:But thanks for the tipps.

look up the veles detector location in the swamp, its the best detector in the game, shows where exactly the artifact is

"hidden veles detector"

Three bandages if your bleeding shows red. Careful about the radiation in the swamps, you might think loss of health was all bleeding, but it can also be radiation. There are artefacts to boost just about every stat. Not all of them are really helpful. Artefacts can spawn after emissions but not all anomalies generate them.

Found it out the hard way. Is it right that radiation isn't always "announced" by my geiger counter? I died a couple of times because I got caught in a radiation ´trap` in the north of the swamps on the search for a lost scout PDA

And while we are in the subject, radiation sickness and radiation as a whole seems to be a little bit buggy. While I got that Vele detector from the northwestern swamp area suddenly radiation rose up while I was somewhere between those traincars (although there was no radiation before); no matter what I did, bandages, medikit, anti radiation medicine, I died in a couple of minutes. Has this happened to anybody else before?

The train cars in the NW area of the swamp and the nearby area is interwoven with a boundry of a radiation zone of exclusion. You can die quickly with one step in the wrong direction without a Sunrise suit, some anti-rad, and/or one or more of the better radiation scavenging artifacts. Save whenever you are moderatly healthy and have reached any sort of milestone.

Looks like there is a lot of lore behind this game. I stumbled across this game after I saw the russian/soviet movie "stalker" from the seventies a couple of month ago. Does the game refer a lot to this movie or the shortstory the movie is based on?

Interesting, I have not heard of this movie before. The Wikipedia entry for Roadside Picnic says the movie Stalker was loosely based on the 1977 book.

It's an astonishing movie, far ahead of its time. And considering it was the Breshnew aera in the soviet union almost a miracle it was not banished and was shown in the movies throughout the land. I didn't know about 'Roadside picnic', maybe I can get it somewhere.
Too bad I can't speak/read russian, sounds cool, though I never really liked the classic russian authors - read the first hundred pages or so, got bored and put it back on the shelf.
Like the game pretty much so far.

Roadside picnic is pretty short - about 150 pages with not so small font. I read it yesterday for a few minutes and i'm already at page 20. So far so good. You can feel the same atmosphere you feel in-game. That's the reason i like Metro and Witcher series. You will appreciate all the details in those games after you read the books and Stalker looks like the same thing.

Btw. i remember first time playing Metro2033 .. i was like .. meh .. then i decided to read the book and when i start the game after that i was like .. woow .. look at this .. look at that .. this is exactly as i imagined ..

It's completely different experience
