For example, setting the time_factor too low breaks Lebedev's walking-away animation after his starting conversation with Scar. There are ways to prevent this, e.g. using on_timer instead of on_game_timer in the relevant logic script. But on_timer has its own problems in other contexts (e.g. its timer keeps running even while the game is paused on the menu screen).
Eventually you'll adapt and won't mind it anymore. Like all new things.
But yeah, a Simple game option to disable morning and night cycles or disable day and evening cycles or just select whichever the players would prefer should have been included. Oh well.
