Joke aside, once you know the game and got better weapons, you can beat the game under 4 hours.
On NG+ I think. BawkaSoup did it with infinite rocket launcher on one playthrough. He's done many speedruns.

On New Game, you still have acces to Handcannon, Chicago sweeper and Primal Knife if you have unlocked them.
But like the most time consuming thing is track backing for treasures. It much faster to go straight to the objective.
The main time saves as a casual player to get the time requirements for like professional s+ as an example (under 5 hours, new game, no unlocked weapons, 15 saves or less) is to basically only grab whats in front of you and ignore going out of the way for stuff, skip most enemies unless they are directly blocking you, will pose a severe problem, or you have to kill them to progress. But you dont want to try skipping so many that you're constantly eating hit after hit leaving you with no healing items constantly and you do need to make sure you have enough ammo to handle forced fights like chainsaw twins, salazar, etc.
Personally, I don't really understand why the game does this. Adding time to the save file unless you specifically quit out to the menu before reloading saves makes no sense. If your goal is a low time on your save file, that feature punishes you simply for not knowing the nuance of the system. But that's what they chose to do.
1.speedrun new game 5.30hrs save 15 times to s+ rank
2.new game plus with infinite rpg you can do time under 8hrs with fullwalkthrough like all treasures all sidequests
grab treasures thats along the way but dont waste time going out of your way to grab ones thats of the beaten path .
Save all the high damage stuff to delete bosses, alternatively RPG is your best friend, save up for one.
You can casually S+ pro if you don't waste time exploring and go from objective to objective and grab some treasures thats along the way.
Also cutscenes count into your timer, so you really shouldn't be expecting to speed running on your first playthrough. Relax and enjoy.
etc blah blah.
And if that's not enough for you, you still have NewGame+, with all the unlocked weapons.
When I play a game for the first time, I usually try to do everything right away. So I don't just leave everything lying around or skip entire rooms. I go through everything and if there's anything left over, I just do it the next time. This also takes more time on the first playthrough than just following the story.
If you die and click continue or load on the continue screen, your playtime will be replaced by the current time of your failed run. To avoid this, you have to go back to the main menu and load it from there to delete the "progress" of your failed run. (An extra time of about 5 seconds)
