BAR (Bolt-Action Rifle) I rush to level 5 and get the exclusive ASAP. Obviously, this isn't literally going to happen the first few times you upgrade so... Emphasis on dmg, at least level 2 (preferably 3) for reload (helps immensely rather than one round at a time), and ammo capacity so I can fire repeatedly before needing to reload (plus ammo in gun doesn't count against RNG ammo drops, as if it isn't there... so this helps feed even more rifle ammo drops). The dmg of this gun is simply absurd able to 1-♥♥♥♥ everything in pro almost always that isn't a boss or special mob (chainsaw/bull), only rarely needing a second shot for some particularly high HP plaga, while a single bullet rips through entire groups of heads. 1 Rifle round killing 2-5 people per shot is simply too good of a deal in terms of ammo efficiency (craft / pickup rates compared to other weapons). Lure them into a hall, on some stairs, or even backup a couple of feet (think of you as the tip of a triangle as the AI gradually funnels together moving towards you as you reverse a couple of feet) all to line them up and bam. It also makes mince meat of specials and bosses with dmg closing in on the highest dmg guns in the game and even beating one revolver. TIP: Do not use the scope. Only equip it when you genuinely need it, aka almost never ever (in fact you can usually just leave it in the typewriter) and treat it as a mid range or close range weapon.
With emphasis on dmg, a few upgrades in reload/capacity before the El Gigante fight and 1-2 flash grenades you can kill the Gigante without it ever taking a step on Professional. Meanwhile, the chainsaw sisters and Village Chief will die to the explosive bolt gun trick (then I sell it for my money back). This will also rock in the cabin fight. This results in an extremely smooth village run. The gun continues to dominate by instantly killing the Garadors (the blind guys, both single and duo version) instantly. It also bypasses wooden shields to single shot head (including groups behind them). BAR is simply way to unreasonably good.
TMP, aka the secret meta after BAR but pairs so well with it why not both? This weapon is simply too good and can act as a straight replacement for a pistol. Yes, that is right. Sell your pistols for extra $$$ and swap your case to a better one (mandatory otherwise the default case will cause handgun ammo to still drop). You also want to NOT use the handgun ammo charm. In short, ammo drops based on weapons active in your case and how much ammo you have of a given type in your case (aka, manipulate ammo to primarily drop for BAR & TMP and as you use it up more drops for said weapons so don't sit on it). The TMP is the best gun in the game for staggering mobs including the special mobs (again, bullmask/chainsaw). This turns you into a melee powerhouse as you get all those free melee prompts (or knife on special, knife prompts have extremely high dmg multipliers unlike normal knife attacks). It has DPS that out performs pistols, too. Even better if you have the crit emblem. This will boost your ammo efficiency even further. Even putting melee aside, the biggest perk of the TMP is its ammo efficiency. If you do the math of how much dmg a set of crafted/picked up SMG ammo does vs the equivalent handgun then the handguns are simply trash. The fact that the TMP excels over handguns at everything else, too, is icing on the cake. TMP can also snipe like a pistol when you get used to a single tap fire, though if you are sniping odds are you are using a rifle anyways except in those rare cases where those very far crossbow enemies have like no HP and any single stray bullet can kill them including TMP/pistol).
Last, Riot Gun. The other shotguns can work, but this one is clearly just overall better compared to them. I usually carry this as a backup weapon and don't use its ammo unless I get really unlucky with RNG of ammo drops and or somehow don't have resources/gunpowder to craft rifle/SMG ammo (aka virtually never). Once ammo for shotgun reaches a certain amount, as prior mentioned, it largely stops dropping meaning you're actually abusing the equivalent of just holding a TMP + BAR for ammo RNG. I will actually upgrade ammo capacity and reload speed to level 2-3 on this as convenient if I can before the cabin fight as a backup if I need to swap ASAP because no chance to reload on the other two weapons (rarely necessary but useful if needed). It is also useful in water room to ragdoll away enemies rather than worrying about killing them as I progress through their quickly and skip wasting time and resources fighting there. Just shoot anything that gets close. If I get the exclusive ticket I can dump it on this and the npush the rest of the upgrades into DMG and it has excellent dmg compared to most weapons despite very minimal investment. Keep in mind I will usually be fully upgrading the BAR ASAP and next the TMP as they both benefit too heavily from all upgrades unlike many other guns and thus I'll end up buying their exclusives rather than using ticket, especially BAR.
Note, if you are doing hardcore the Stingray is also very powerful and a faster more user friendly option if you aren't used to the BAR, though the BAR is definitely quite superior and worth learning and not hard, either.
Some weapons aren't worth buying all their capacity and reload speed upgrades. Assuming this isn't a rank run, gathering the spinels for an upgrade ticket is the way to go for them.
The weapons I'd consider for the above are the Bolt-Action Rifle, Magnums, and Riot Gun. Only upgrade their reload speed/capacity to the point you can reload the entire capacity in one or two animation cycles, and get the exclusive via ticket.
personally I always upgrade the starter rifles damage all the way first, that gun shreds everything if you aim at weakpoints, the exclusive upgrade damn near makes it the best gun in the game by far
so the rifle you get early is a good option^^ what about the shotgun, it as a good spread so you can hit a lot of ennemeies and it seems quite powerful!
You ever go hunting or a turkey shoot. Also a turkey shoot is at targets and not actual turkeys... hehehe
You want your pattern tight for more accuracy and dmg. The more a shotgun spreads the more useless it is.
Gaming shotguns are always in your face for the most dmg, one on one.
You're probably always going to want *a shotgun* but which one depends on how your playing.
Striker's wide spread and fire rate makes it the best option for keeping a horde out of your face so you can run past them. Riot Gun is a delete button for single ganados. W-870 is the inbetweener.
I agree with the above that riot is the most consistently useful. One shell one kill is a pretty sustainable gameplan.
Oh yeah. A good tip would be to not worry about resources. The game will ALWAYS give you enough resources to beat anything in your way. I always play aggro and don't mind my bullets. Even in pro diff the game will still make sure that you have enough resources to beat every encounter.
