What is Critical Hit
Does it only apply towards headshots? How about plagas and Bosses? (Their heads*)

I maxed out my Silver Ghost. I noticed Act 3 Enemies die when I shoot their head then engage in melee. (I guess it's working?)

I'm kind of curious as well. In the original I believe it was a chance to explode heads basically but Idk if it's the same here

Anyone?

A critical will apply a multiplier IIRC, like 10x the damage. If you get a crit you will usually blow the enemy to pieces straight away.

I've been using the weapon and it does pop head more consistently and enemies who have their head poped are seems to more likely to just drop dead instead of transforming.

I think crit actually works outside of headshots now because I've hand random shots that downed mobs in one hit or full on stagger them when other guns usually take two or three hits. Normally it takes 3 shot to get a zombie on their knees but with the base gun fully upgraded I've seem them fall flat on their face and exposed for a knife finisher in one hit.

It's not exclusive to weakspots or headshots. Similar to RE2R, it can just happen on any hit. The most noticeable instance for me is when I'm shooting someone in the legs and then the whole leg just blows off, even with a pistol or SMG. I think maybe headshots just have a higher change, or maybe they don't but like weakspots, they receive more damage anyways.

It doesn't stop transforming inherently. Aggatsuki or whatever their name is did some testing and it seems transformations to plaga have a dmg threshold for overkill. If you overkill them with high enough dmg it stops the transformation. Crits can do this... however pistols don't crit hard enough to ever do this. Other guns can but have very low crit rates. Most reliable is bolt action rifle or a magnum neither of which even need to crit, just headshot.

Crits are, indeed, a multiplier as Hash said. How big of a multiplier is beyond me.

In RE2R your crit chance was mostly dependent on the dynamic difficulty though, it would go up when you're at a disadvantage. If you don't pick up ammo during you first walk through the station you'll usually explode the head of the first or second zombie you shoot because of that. RE4R probably still has a similar mechanic. RE8 did as well.

The Silver Ghost is my fav Pistol in the game and I do think its crits prevent transformation even on hardcore, just not entirely reliably. The threshold might be floating dynamically.

BTW: if you hold still before firing so that the crosshair is fully tightened your chance to crit seemed to be higher for me. The laser pointer should amplify that.

At least its what I've notice in my play through in all difficulty. This remains true even on professional when I was playing of seeing enemy just randomly dropping dead from a basic shot from a fully upgraded beginner gun.

I figured it had something to do with over kill since the same thing happens when I blew enemies to pieces using a shotgun or sniper being on par with a un-upgraded magnum round.

As for if its hard enough to overkill, like you said, we don't know the multiplier so saying its not enough to do so isn't inherently true. Usually three shots to the head downs a basic enemy, My guess is head/weakspots have additional damage multiplier on top of crit multipliers which is why headshot crits seems so noticable.

I wouldn't say a pistol can't do something when we aren't even sure it works the way it we're thinking.

Aside from that I just notice things like boss getting their stagger for melee in one hit after hitting the weakspot. Assuming Hash is correct an upgraded silver ghost can easily deal 20 damage (2 power x 10 multiplier) x weakspot multiplier.

No. It apply to every part of the body. If you crit on the legs or arms, it will fly off. If you crit on the head, it will explode. Not sure about body part though. The enemy would probably die instantly, no drama effect. As for non humanoid enemies, Leon will simply said some quotes like "Next", "One down" or if you're with Ashley, she will say something like "Holy..." or "Wow" or "Nice shot". These quotes indicated that you've critical hit the enemy. But these quotes has cooldown, so it won't get repetitive.

As for major bosses, correct me if i'm wrong but i don't believe you can critical hit them. Maybe it goes for mini bosses like Garrador, Regenrador, Iron Maiden as well.

Well, we can test them easily - choose one boss, hit his head with SG gun, see the damage is consistence or not.
Let say normally 10 headshot with SG gun the bug will come out from his back, maybe with crit hit it only take less than 10 headshot?

Or we could use a mod to test that out. For example, give SG gun a 100% Crit rate, count how many bullet we use to kill the boss, reload save and use other pistol that has the same damage and count. If it takes more than SG gun, then we'll know we can crit on bosses.

Only some experiments, this is what I am pretty sure due to hp mod and whatnot.

Bosses can be crit. With the killer 7, it's really easy to tell if one hit crit because it either takes 9 or 10 headshots to kill him with it.
Crit is 50% more damage, (so 150% damage).

What I think is true.
You can only crit on weakpoints.

What I'm not sure about.
Base crit is 5%. The longer you aim, the higher the crit chance (up to 7%). Killer7 is always considered fully aimed.

Someone posted that ashley will say something when you crit, which I don't think is true unless the bolt action has like 50% crit, because she says something like that every time I headshot someone.
Flan Apr 2, 2023 @ 11:43pm
Just like the original there doesn't seem to be any indicator if you get a crit beyond it takes less shots to kill. I think the critical hit is the thing that makes their head explode, not does more damage. For instance the 5x crit handgun does it roughly half of the time compared to the normal ones 1 in 10 chance.

Lets hope when Mercenaries come out, there are damage numbers can we see in that mode.
NYuKeM Apr 3, 2023 @ 1:39am
I am pretty sure critical applies to headshots also, sometimes I blew up the head of enemies with a single headshot while the rest of them (from the same type) are staying alive and need (at least) 2-3 bullets on the same spot. I used Sentinel Nine which has increased crit. Also used a maxed out Killer 7 on bosses, they died quite fast (even on harder difficulties I only needed a few bullets).
