It's takes like this that make me wish there was a world where the RE4 Remake was the original RE4 instead, so we can see if everybody still has the same complaints.
People always talk about everything as if it's binary. It's either charming or it's not, it's either humorous or it's not. I'd agree the humor is toned down here but there is plenty of memorability and charm here.
I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree. To me the remake doesn't hold a candle to the original in terms of humour and charm. The game is excellent in a dozen other ways and surpasses the original in some, but definitely not in this way, and in my opinion that was wasted potential but not unexpected.
The Regeneradors are way more dangerous and the initial one that chases you down was not something I was expecting. I'd say thats fairly memorable.
The Krauser fight in place of the original QTE I think is way more memorable than the original.
Ashley and Leon have great banter compared to the original, especially with a lot of the interactions still being somewhat cheesy. People seem to completely ignore that cheese in favor of different types of cheese from the original. At least Ashley has "a" personality in this version of the game.
The Minecart ride I also think is way more memorable in this game than the original. There it felt like kind of a slog with it just being Point A --> Point B. Stop and kill a bunch of Ganados. Point B --> Point C. Stop and kill a bunch of Ganados etc.
There's got to be hundreds of examples or more memorable experiences than the original, as well as tons of filler content and areas in the original that are replaced with much better content that makes sense with the theme.
I think most people just go "it's not the same as the original so therefore it's not good", when both of them can, and were absolutely good in their own rights.
I'm not sure what you're trying to argue here. I JUST said I think the remake was great and did a lot of really good things and improved the original in some ways. I'm not disagreeing with you there. But I'm not going to change my mind on the issue of tone and humour, which I firmly believe was done better in the original. Just accept that that's what I believe.
Nobody's going to change each others argument. Just pointing out some examples for the rest of the audience.
"My one regret, was putting a loaded rocket launcher right outside my boss room"
I'm curious what you did in the original haha. There's a safe spot you can just sit on and it's in the most obvious spot for me to stand so I discovered it on the very first attempt at this boss.
New boss is way better
