Spanish speaking people, are the villagers Spanish or Mexican?
I know in the original the villagers weren't Spanish but Mexicans, did they fix it in the remake?

doesn't matter, it's incredibly annoying to hear them yelling the same line again and again

Aprisa, aprisa, se escapan los corderitos, perseguidles y guiadles al perdon infinito.
Apparently the way to say "I'm Spanish" in Spanish is "soy espanol", which really says all you need to know about these euro soy boys

That all the villagers are Caucasian should tell you they aren't Mexican.

Both the original game and the remake are located in Spain and specifically in an area of the Pyrenees freely inspired by the Aran Valley (that's what they said in capcóm...), what happened with the original is that the voices (I still have my GC version) were in English and the villagers spoke Mexican because someone from Capcom decided that it was cheaper than hiring voice actors in Spanish, or perhaps just ignorance of the difference between the Spanish we speak in Spain and the Spanish Latino that is exclusively from South America, in any case the original was hilarious, purely Mexican phrases (and no one should be offended) like Detras de ti imbesssil!!! o Es hora de asssplastar !!! tremendous.

They're Caucasian in the original but they spoke Mexican so that doesn't tell us anything

It's not, as a non-spanish speaker I couldn't tell if they're Spanish or Mexican, and in the original they were Mexican despite the fact they're in Spain

Which is kinda funny considering the vast majority of Mexicans are Amerindian, then again most Americans i've met think Spain and Spanish people are exactly the same as Mexico and Mexican people so i guess i shouldn't be surprised that people in Japan might think the same thing. Then again maybe at the time it was because games when made for the West were made primarily for the US market and Americans are more used to hearing Mexican Spanish. I dunno. It's fixed in this version.

Now they speak Spanish correctly, although the dubbing is still poor in terms of the phrases of the cattle that are very repetitive, they could have included more variety, anyway...
