The K7 continues to be the better HC in terms of handling, capacity, and reload, but capacity isn't as important in the Remake since capacity upgrades don't refresh ammo.
What I don't know is whether the 5x crit upgrade of the K7 is effective against boss weak points - if so, I'd say the K7 is better if you can guarantee your shot on a weakspot. Given how much more enemies and bosses wiggle around, however, that's not something you can guarantee.
Personally, I prefer the K7. With how rare and costly magnum ammo is, it's more important to ensure a shot from one hits its target every time - the risk of missing isn't worth it. The moment you miss a shot with the butterfly is the moment it loses to the K7, even with exclusives.
plenty of people only used the BB for the same reason too, both suffer hard from it.
1. Assuming you aren't using a rocket launcher then unlike the original game the magnum ammo is so scarce in this game if you save every scrap of magnum ammo you find you might have "just enough" for the final boss if you don't miss or barely miss and upgraded BB dmg + used exclusive ticket (or just fully upgraded). You can manipulate ammo RNG some by intentionally screwing yourself (if you are confident) out of other useful ammo and hording it into Magnum rounds but this is ill advised for most people on first run and people on second or beyond runs will likely be using a rocket launcher in encounters that would have been for magnum much of the time... Realistically, this places sheer dmg value on Broken Butterfly for its very limited use.
2. The encounters that actually warrant a Magnum don't have issues with its asininely terrible reticle so this doesn't advantage Killer 7. Say you want to use it for a double Garrador rather than just popping them with rifle/riot gun. You will grenade or flash bang them and hit them at nearly point blank as you have to get behind them anyways so you are passing by typically. Final boss or Ramon? You're often very close and this is ideal for dealing with them and its eye once it falls so missing isn't a realistic concern. While potential arguments could be made for other encounters I'd have to ask why they are being used at all with other encounters to begin with, especially some like Village Chief or Twin Chainsaw Sisters where Mine Thrower is infinitely superior (esp on pro where Chief has insane HP on his spine even for a fully upgraded magnum while mine thrower can instant down him).
Now on the other hand I can also raise the point that almost nothing in the game has enough HP to even matter if you are using Killer 7 or Broken Butterfly. Final boss eyes still pop in 1 Magnum round and basically any non-boss mob goes down in one shot either way. Any other boss aside from Village chief (already mentioned its issue with all magnums prior) also will see its phases cut short by a magnum aside from the not yet mentioned Verdugo whom is far far too tanky to use a Magnum on in professional (use rocket) and odds are in hardcore its a NG run with an not upgraded magnum where Riot Gun is superior. In short, in reality both guns function almost totally identically in situations where they are applied so it really doesn't matter. The exception might be you slightly speed up a boss fight with overdmg to the weakpoints when they kneel down for some bosses but those bosses all have better ways to kill them so it doesn't even matter.
Additional point of relevance is that the Riot Gun was massively buffed in the remake while the bolt rifle with its exclusive is so potent its practically a magnum at full upgrade if you hit a weak spot. Just these two, alone, with their far more plentiful ammo as well as great use of grenades and bolt mines make magnums pretty low tier weapons in the remake.
But yeah, definitely take the Killer 7, fast reload, laser sight, high capacity, smaller, fires faster, and the extra critical gives you the odd chance of really smashing your typical targets like Garradors/Bosses in less shots if you get it on a chance.
Broken Butterfly was my favorite and they did it really dirty this game, it hurts my heart.
