I started with damage upgrade on the knife thinking it would be like the original game, turns out I never actually used the knife outside of specific parries and takedown/weakened bosses prompts, or when I get grabbed. So basically just the QTE, never the actual knife as a weapon
See how you play, but as far as I'm concerned it's utterly useless, enemies are too swift for you to do anything with a knife, and crossbow's already there for all your saving ammo needs.
Upgrading durability is king tho
Finishing an enemy using the regular poke uses less durability than the insta-kill takedowns, plus I'm pretty sure the damage takedowns you can do to brutes/chainsaw guys/bosses scales with knife damage.
