upgrades cap at 3
how do i unlock weapon upgrades 4 and 5?

At some point in the later chapters of the castle, the merchant says he got a hold of some better tools, and the rest of the upgrades are revealed. I think each upgradable stat gets another 2 or 3 tiers. It's not piecemeal, as in it's not revealed bit by bit. You have half the upgrades available until this chapter, then they're all available straight up. And this also reveals the Exclusive upgrade which is available either with a spinel bought Ticket, or dropping 80-100k pesetas after buying all upgrades on that weapon too.

I believe it's chapter based, once you reach certain chapters the latter upgrade tiers are made available.

do you know what chapter you get the 4th upgrade? im asking because i break my main knife "lvl 3 dura and damage" and a boot knife at full dura trying for a knife only Garador kill but its not enuf.

Chapter 9, along with exclusive upgrade.

You need like another 200k at least per weapon, so be prepare to save up pesetas
