Tips for Verdugo on Hardcore?
So I've been speed running hardcore so I'm not as geared as I could be but any tips on fighting Verdugo, I was doing decently but I feel I wasted ammo so wondering if like unloading bullets when it's not "frozen" is unoptimal etc.

RPG is a 1 hit. Grenades do more damage to it, if I remember correctly. Not sure if crossbow mines do that, too.

Also, you don't have to fight it, just survive until the elevator arrives by parrying, evading and kiting it. At least that was possible in the original, if I remember correctly.

He has a LARGE amount of HP, when frozen he takes considerably more dmg.

At the end of the day, killing him will always be a ammo sink, its up to you to decide if its worth it, even more if you have the resources for it, you get a 30k Treasure for killing him if i recall. (and theres an Achievement for killing him and a challenge for doing it without freezing him)

One common strat in the OG was to just blast him with a rocket launcher, but since we no longer get a free one, and they're considerably more expensive, thats not really an option.

One thing worth mentioning though, Salazar has a secret weakness, which you can use to take a large portion of his HP instantly A freaking Golden Egg, no im not kidding, for whatever reason using that against him will take a huge portion of his HP and instantly stun him as well, you can do a sorta quick detour to get a free Golden Egg in his throne, this can help to both kill him faster and help when low in ammo

Aye was considering if maybe I should just avoid him and get to the elevator like in the OG, that being said part of me feels like killing him would be faster than waiting if I have the means to do so.

Ah good so using my better weapons during frozen state is better overall, yeah I figured he had a large health pool like in the OG and it is a shame we don't get the free rpg haha

Though dang nice thank you, I wasn't really expecting Ramon to be all that difficult anyway but knowing a golden egg nukes him (which is easily garunteed from doing that merchant request) is defs helpful for later.

Edit: Wrong thread. But while I'm at it ... any way to get him to actually run into the trap near the elevator room?

You have to double back for that one, in my experience. Run past it, then he should pop out of a pipe in the area, then you can run back through and freeze his ass.

Lost my patience with it and ended up getting the rocket launcher with a charm discount ... had planned to skip dynamite retrieval with it, gave up on that, then was happy to see I could actually afford both ... only to find out the rocket launcher apparently is a one-time-only purchase.

Verdugo just took too much ammunition and I also felt like it doesn't stay frozen as long as on the other difficulties.

Actually not a one time purchase, but maybe once per area? I'm not certain, but I know I've bought 2 in one run before.

E- Upon further thought, it may be re-set when approaching a new boss fight.

tbh it's worth more on Verdugo than for the dynamite skip I feel, Dynamite isn't that much of a time waste and pretty easy to run past everything whereas Verdugo has the chance to eat up resources. Though aye would be nice if you had the funds that you could do both.

Maybe once per chapter? I know I tried the same where I used the rocket launcher on Verdugo and then wanted it for the dynamite and it wasn't available but can't think of other instances that I've tried.

Or I guess yeah just certain checkpoints trigger a refresh.

Good point, also could be a per-chapter basis.

Handcannon+ DLC ticket + Ice = No more Verd

Usually only lasts 2 or 3 freezes, ends things way quicker, and he drops valuable treasure.

ice him up. blast him with shotty and rifle, rinse and repeat. easy asf

Bought the rocket launcher in chapter ... whatever the number, the one with Verdugo. From the merchant location right before it. The dynamite area is in the next chapter and it is a new area, but the merchant location is still the very next one right after Verdugo and right at the start of the chapter. If he'll sell another, maybe it'll take a while.

Well, at least I get to collect the treasures from the dynamite area, I guess. Still, those chainsawers eat ammo like nothing.^^

What I did was after leaving the room you encounter him in you'll come up to a room on the right side of the hall that has a locked door that leads to another liquid nitrogen shower, some crates, and a bunch of stuff in the middle. I just kept circling the stuff and blasting him. Sometimes he'll even get stuck for a little bit giving you time to reload or just blast him because he won't try to dodge when he's stuck.
