The Last of Us is possibly the single most overrated game in history, so that goes without saying. The Last of Us is for people that want to feel smart and mature for playing a "very very serious game for grown ups" and think that blatantly plagerising superior works of fiction like Children of Men and The Road makes them original and groundbreaking.

It's a pretentious game for pretentious people.

Resident Evil 4, on the other hand, is awesome in every way. End of story.

RE4 original and remake are awesome but I personally think that Elden Ring is the most overrated game in history by a country mile.

Facts. Interestingly enough, TLoU was one of the countless games that RE4 inspired. There's a discount cabin section in TLoU with 20-30 enemies in a small building. (Forgot the names of the enemy types: there's one that runs and a fat one that walks slowly. It's that unmemorable with 3-4 total enemy types including humans with firearms. Definitely not like RE4, where you have like several different enemy types with insanely different weapons ranging from pitchforks to bowguns, fascinating plaga variants to change up the gameplay, mini-bosses and quality boss fights.)

However, OG RE4 is one of the GOATs that pushed boundaries in many aspects including set pieces, encounter design, gunplay, level of detail to name a few, while TLoU is an interactive movie with mediocre-at-best gameplay. It's amazing how people consider something a certified masterpiece if the presentation is top notch, and everything else is average or kinda sucks. And TLoU 2 is vile trash.

Amen. Take my points!

I really liked TLoU. Before the DLC and sequel ruined the series, it was a solid story game with two great characters in Joel and Ellie, great scenery and atmosphere, and a journey that felt... meaningful, until the end anyway. Combat was fairly basic, but the game kinda made up for it by immersing you in an awesome story and character study with a lot of very emotional, adult topics that were rare from AAA western developers at the time. It's a solid game. It's just not RE4 solid.

Elden Ring is certainly overrated. I was thinking that most games since 2008 have been overrated in some way. Incidentally, that's when video games started becoming dark and cinematic experiences with GTA IV being one of them. However, most games the last few years have been super overrated. 10/10 never used to be a thing back when I started gaming around 2003 - even games closer to perfection and/or pushed boundaries like Half Life 2, RE4, Thief 2, MGS3, Devil May Cry 3, Shadow of the Colossus etc. were never awarded perfect scores across the board.

Fast forward to now, games with over 40% cutscenes and gameplay for babies are GOTYs, repetitive gameplay plus rehashed sections with poor balancing like Elden Ring get nothing but 10s. As much as I absolutely adore MGS V, awarding 10 for an unfinished game just doesn't sound right. Oh, and we all know why TLoU 2 and Deathloop got their 10s and GOTYs. At least Elden Ring is still a video game (not an interactive movie nor an agenda piece) with decent gameplay that loses steam only toward the end - until Radahn I really enjoyed it.

damn, didn't even know it was released yet.. 41% mixed reviews on Steam, ouch. RE4 is actually the first game released this year, that was built with current-gen consoles in mind, that didn't run absolutely horribly on my PC. I'm not even using DLSS (which it doesn't have, so obviously) or the AMD equivalent. Game is seriously well optimized.

RE4 got a real remake, with the game being rebuild from the ground, essentially being a completely different game.

TLOU on the other hand is nothing but a overpriced scam thats just a remaster in reality, not a remake.

I don't remember TLOU being advertised as a remake. You obviously favor remakes over remasters which tells me that you got tired of the originals rather quickly.

I actually wished RE4R stayed truer to the original because personally I prefer remasters to remakes and some of the level changes they did here are not going to age as well as the original. But this game is definitely the best remake. It's still doesn't take away from the fact the base game design from TLOU is impressive in its own right. And of course it is overpriced. It's published by Sony.
They did tried to sell it as a remake, also, this game had already gotten remastered, so making another one, at full price no less, its nothing but them being greedy pieces of garbage.

They could have just ported the damn thing, and even then, they failed miserably with the optimization of it.

Anyway, RE4 was in need of a remake after 2 and 3, the main purpose of the remake is to bring the game to today's standards, as good as the OG was, its gameplay was outdated, and considering the more serious tone the remakes have been going for, they also rewrote the script of the game to fit the more serious tone, and it did quite well, specially Luis who lets be honest, got treated pretty badly in the original, or Krauser who got a more personal story with Leon and their rivalry felt more genuine (plus his boss fight was a massive improvement)

I don't think anyone can unironically say that RE4 has a better story than TLOU, or any other game for that matter.

RE4 doesn't even try.

Biased opinion much?

The gore system in TLOU1 is insane and brings back feels from the Soldier of Fortune games.

You can straight up drive a hand axe into an enemies side to kill them. They wince and scream in pain dynamically depending on the wound and even choke on blood. The wound damage is extremely graphic if you zoom in to see. If it was an FPS it would be horrifying. Lol

RE4 has cool gore but it's not realistic in any way. Just really cool.

Definitely. The gore system in The Last of Us is amongst the best I've ever seen, realism-wise. It's crime scene material.

RE will always be king in my view but TLOU needs some credit where credit is due here.

Cool gore systems are nice but we are still talking video games. The core of video games is gameplay and that is where TLOU lacks severely. It's mildly engaging enough to carry you you through the above average video game story, but after that's done there is nothing interesting about it. Games like RE4 keep bringing people back again and again, because they do the one thing that is key for games, they are actually fun to play.

TLoU doesnt even try to be a game. Playstation just singlehandedly ruined the entire generation of gamers with "cinematic" trash having an average story at best. Games meant to be played, not disrespecting my time with intense slow walking and cringy "deep" dialogues about mambo-jumbo father-son/daughter/non-binary problems. "Story driven games" and open worlds = cancer.

Does it have to? A story doesn't have to be oscar bait to be engaging and fun. Is the story in expendables movies good? Is it even supposed to be good? RE4 is story is stupid fun and you like some of the characters. It's exactly what it needs to be.
