It's a pretentious game for pretentious people.
Resident Evil 4, on the other hand, is awesome in every way. End of story.
RE4 original and remake are awesome but I personally think that Elden Ring is the most overrated game in history by a country mile.
However, OG RE4 is one of the GOATs that pushed boundaries in many aspects including set pieces, encounter design, gunplay, level of detail to name a few, while TLoU is an interactive movie with mediocre-at-best gameplay. It's amazing how people consider something a certified masterpiece if the presentation is top notch, and everything else is average or kinda sucks. And TLoU 2 is vile trash.
Fast forward to now, games with over 40% cutscenes and gameplay for babies are GOTYs, repetitive gameplay plus rehashed sections with poor balancing like Elden Ring get nothing but 10s. As much as I absolutely adore MGS V, awarding 10 for an unfinished game just doesn't sound right. Oh, and we all know why TLoU 2 and Deathloop got their 10s and GOTYs. At least Elden Ring is still a video game (not an interactive movie nor an agenda piece) with decent gameplay that loses steam only toward the end - until Radahn I really enjoyed it.
Butt yes I am enjoying RE4remake atm.
They could have just ported the damn thing, and even then, they failed miserably with the optimization of it.
Anyway, RE4 was in need of a remake after 2 and 3, the main purpose of the remake is to bring the game to today's standards, as good as the OG was, its gameplay was outdated, and considering the more serious tone the remakes have been going for, they also rewrote the script of the game to fit the more serious tone, and it did quite well, specially Luis who lets be honest, got treated pretty badly in the original, or Krauser who got a more personal story with Leon and their rivalry felt more genuine (plus his boss fight was a massive improvement)
RE4 doesn't even try.
Cool gore systems are nice but we are still talking video games. The core of video games is gameplay and that is where TLOU lacks severely. It's mildly engaging enough to carry you you through the above average video game story, but after that's done there is nothing interesting about it. Games like RE4 keep bringing people back again and again, because they do the one thing that is key for games, they are actually fun to play.
Does it have to? A story doesn't have to be oscar bait to be engaging and fun. Is the story in expendables movies good? Is it even supposed to be good? RE4 is story is stupid fun and you like some of the characters. It's exactly what it needs to be.
