Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4

View Stats:
Steam Reviewers > Metacritic
As I write this thread, the RE4 remake's Steam reviews are overwhelmingly positive, while Matacritic users are giving the game mediocre reviews.

On Steam, the remake has a 97% positive score;

PS5 from Metacritic gave it a 7.0;

Xbox series X rated the remake 4.9;

Metacritic's PC gave it a 5.5 (this is ironic. Steam is a PC platform, but it scores much better based on many more user reviews);

I notice that with each passing year, Metacritic users have started to use the platform to force low ratings on games for ridiculous reasons. The situation gets more and more toxic when we realize that anyone can create an account on Metacritic and hate every game you find, including the ones he didn't buy or even play to make a decent review.

In addition to the re4 remake, we had several games that went through attacks from nerd boomers who entered metacritic just to hate the game. Some examples I can give you are TLOU2 which suffered a lot of hate for being a "Woke game" and Elden Ring for winning the game of the year to later be attacked by people who preferred God of War Ragnarok.

That's why Steam is considered the best review platform in the entire gaming industry. We all need to first buy and play the game and then write a review of our experiences. RE4 Remke moved a lot of things and removed (to add new features) from the original game, but that doesn't mean it's a bad game, far from it, it's one of the contenders for GOTY of the year alongside Ri-Fi Rush.

I apologize for my bad english.

Personally never gave a rats ass about metacritic tbh. Steam Reviews are imho the best reviews to use to get a feel of things (with actually looking at reviews ofc). That combined with just like getting up-to-date with news and surrounding stuff, I usually get very good impressions of where issues lie with a game.
Steam Reviews are also usually along the lines of what I would rate stuff after educating myself on it (playing, researching, analysing etc, I like it)
I usually just ask friends who understand my taste in games.

I've always viewed websites like metacritic and rotten tomato's to be worthless in general though. No one should give a damn what those websites have to say.

I use Steam reviews to see if the game is broken or not. If it looks interesting enough and actually runs well, I'll decide if it's good or not. You always have 2 hours to refund if it sucks.

Steam has much more cred than Metacritic. I wouldn't give this much attention.

Console people are complaining about controls, which I mean, what do they expect? Controller on a console plugged into a TV will never yield the results of a fine tuned PC, with Kb/Mouse and a proper gaming monitor.

No self-respecting PC gamer will go to Metacritic to leave a review, unless they just intend to review bomb a game because everyone else is doing it, or whatever other stupid reason. Some people just like to be negative just for the heck of it.

And some, I've noticed, are older gamers that are still salty that the original RE4 was not fixed camera angles or horror like 1-3. I assume they have never touched Steam, or very rarely go into it with their 10 year old PC's. To this day, they are still waiting for a "true Resident Evil"

Pretty sure its console players having skill issue.
I plug their dualsense5 into steam and have no problem clearing the game.
Maybe pc players are built different idk.

Its a weird phenomenon nowadays

I'm looking through the reviews and despite seeing 403 negative review I can only see 8 of them when I click on it. I legit don't know wtf is going on with Metacritic review right now.

Steam Review is fairly reliable because you can confirmed they at least bought and played the game.

I am a 37 year old gamer, been playing since sega genesis and I miss the halcyon days of dos but with that said: nostalgia boomers are pure cancer. Your last paragraph reminds of this youtuber/streamer named "Fungo" who use to do videos about Bloodborne and Silent Hill. I kinda liked him but then he utterly lost his ♥♥♥♥ over RE2R and publicly insulted anyone who liked it or RE4 style games. Pissed away so much good will and didn't even express his view as opinion but objective truth.

I do love the tank control RE games as well too so its not like I'm biased eitherway but those people you describe are annoying.

NOTHING ever satisfies them either.

Also someone in their 30s and it's funny that those people are so up Capcom's ass they fail to see there's quite a few games on Steam that gives them what they want like Tormented Souls. Not good enough though because it's still not Resident Evil somehow.

Tbf, TLOU2 actually deserved the review bombing.

I always saw the fanbase outraged about Joel's death and thought "where was this passion when Silent Hill 3 was released and how they did my man Harry...?"

idk about Darktide but the other two are valid. Wo Long was Mostly Negative because people were THAT butthurt over ♥♥♥♥♥♥ kb+m controls. It became Mixed and people are now butthurt over being walled by the first boss.

Yeah, the writing was trash. And since it's a story focused game it pretty much ruins the whole thing.
