Regenerator Tip (or bug?)

I was messing around with some other weapons in a playthrough and it seems that the most effective method for killing a regenerator turns out to be shotgun or whatever its leg to break it then shoot it with the assault rifle. This may seem odd as some of you know the assault rifle has low penetration compared to other rifles (or is bugged?) and the hits do not properly detect/penetrate the regenerators properly requiring excessive rounds despite point blank. However, once they are on the ground the bullets penetrate completely flawlessly even at the long angle (from distance head through feet... meaning u can kill a downed regenerator in under 1s with 1-2 bullets from assault rifle).

I've not tested if this works for the LE 5's penetration yet but I did not notice this behavior ever with BAR or Stingray.

Of course, the best method still remains to simply shoot it knocking it down and walking past it like it isn't there unless you simply want the gems.
