This also counts with the Merchant Request of throwing an egg at Ramon Salazar's painting in the Throne Room of the Castle. This WILL count against the Minimalist challenge and put a 1 on your Minimalist counter. So skip this challenge if you want this achievement. I tried and tested this on my Minimalist play through with the Golden Egg you get from the Cube Box in the same room, it puts the counter to 1 under the Minimalist Challenge in your Pause menu.
Only weapon exceptions;
Using Explosive Barrels in all areas (You still use a gun to shoot them).
Using Harpoons during the Del Lago boss battle in the Village Lake.
Using the Red9 during the Mine cart sections under the Castle.
Using the Gun Turrets during Chapter 15 on the Island.
Using the Rocket Launcher that Ada gives you in Chapter 16.
If you're going for this achievement, be sure to set your case to the Black Caché, which has an increased chance of Handgun Ammo dropping in the world. Also, have the right charms attached to your case so you get a crafting bonus whenever you craft more Handgun Ammo from Small Resources and Gunpowder.
Best of luck!
Bonus tip; I did this alongside Frugalist and Silent Stranger. Even on Assisted, this was extremely difficult to do alongside one another.. try at your own risk. ><
It does. Unfortunately.
