Scroll-Wheel Weapon Switching..
It's not the worst idea ever.. If you're trying to inflict pain on yourself. But for actual convenience and usability.. in game.. IT'S AWFUL!..

Now, if anyone suffers with the "oh but it's a survival horror or whatever type of game and controls have to be punishing" complex, that's ok, you can use the default scheme. What is not ok is to have the F&*%)NG SCROLL WHEEL HARDCODED FOR EVERYBODY to use for weapon switching by rotation/cycling.. NO THANKS, BRO!..

I want to be able to have control over my weapons by "shortcuts" and conveniently in reach..

As an ex in my case:

1. Base weapon (in this game's case that would be a Handgun) on "Scroll Up"
2. Emergency weapon (in this game's case a Shotgun) on "Scroll Down"
3. Special case weapon (in this case a Sniper Rifle) on "3" (which is still in reach while moving with WASD to move!.. unlike "1" and "2".. )
4. Grenade/s on either "4", or "G" (grenade), or "F" (Flashbang) or both "F" and "G", which are both in reach.

This way, whatever scenario I am under, I can ALWAYS, even when panicking.. know that "Scroll Up" brings up my handgun, "Scroll Down" when I'm in a tight spot, "3" when I see something at a distance and I want to take a quick snipe, and "4" (or "G", or "F".. ) for when I want to do a bit of crowd control or damage..

Spinning a stupid wheel, especially also having a sub section of each 4 slots it's only asking for trouble. Makes sense on a D-Pad, just as in my above example, it offers straight up "shortcuts" to whatever you'd need, but on the PC, HARDCODING the scroll wheel to mess through your weapons it's purely BAD DESIGN! Give me an option to disable this "feature" and everyone's happy!.. I can use "3" and "4", or "G" and "F" no problem, but having "1" and "2" unreachable and not being able to move them on the Scroll Up/Down is TERRIBLE!

I always HATE when games HARDCODE THE SCROLL WHEEL ON ANYTHING, especially WITHOUT GIVING AN OPTION TO CHANGE IT! I want to be able to use the Scroll Wheel as Independent and easily accessible keys, especially with nowadays games which have a ton of secondary controls.. Ex. you have "Shift" for Run AND you also might have to bind "Dodge" or "Roll" to a key.. Guess what key would be best for dodging.. Yes, it's ALSO "Shift"!.. But wait, that key is already taken by "Run".. So, the next best thing would be to.. oh wait.. ROLL your Scroll Wheel to.. "Roll".. Who would've thought!.. Mind blown, right.. ? You can actually use the Scroll wheel for something more convenient than rolling through multiple weapon slots..

So, CAPCOM.. PLEASE! and THANK YOU!.. FIX THE F*#$)NG Scroll Wheel!.. Let it be free of STUPID HARDCODED ACTIONS! PLEASE!..

And while at it, MAKE THE CROUCH ACTION TAKE PRIORITY WHEN PRESSED OVER ANYTHING ELSE! I want to be able to press "CROUCH" while Running and.. well.. ACTUALLY F(*#$NG CROUCH!..

It's just COMMON SENSE, it's ACCESSIBLE GAME DESIGN!..

EDIT: ALSO.. WHY IS THERE NO CONFIGURATION FILE TO AT THE VERY LEAST EDIT YOUR KEY BINDS MANUALLY !?!?!?!?!..

I use the scroll wheel to switch to specific weapons and equipment too in other games. It's too bad you can't do it here.

Maybe just assign two weapons to short cut slots. Handgun and shotgun so moving wheel switch between two. Special weapon scroll wheel click or press Tab to open the item menu in the traditional Resident Evil way of switching weapons. Try to figure something that works for because this scroll wheel configuration is found in many games and works for most people, including me.

I've though about that already and it's limiting me to the two weapons and constantly having to open the attache case, which is not.. ideal to say the least. Not to mention that the whole pint of NOT USING the Scroll Wheel in the first place was to not "overshoot" what you're trying to switch to.. The way you're proposing means that if I spin the wheel up 2 or 4 times, I'd end up switching (cycling) BACK to the weapon I was already holding.. Whereas the whole idea of mapping a slot to "Scroll Up/Down" is that no matter how many steps I'd scroll Up, I will ALWAYS switch to (not CYCLE to) the "Up Slot" and no matter how many times I've scrolled Down, I'll end up in the "Down Slot".. The first input will switch to the required slot, while the next couple of additional steps, either Up or Down will be simply ignored, as you're already in the said slot, you will not CYCLE further in either way, unless you are to change scrolling direction. What I want to do is basically "swipe Up" for Slot 1" and "swipe Down" for Slot 2, regardless of how short (1 scroll step) or long (maybe 3, 4 or 5 scroll steps) my "swipe" ends up being.

Also, I might want to only use one scroll direction as a weapon slot, say "Scroll Up" for "Slot 1", while having an additional "Dodge" Key mapped to "Scroll Down" (I can use "3", "4" and "F"&/"G" as they are in reach) for 3 weapon shortcuts and free one Scroll Direction for a convenient action shortcut.

What i've.. "concocted" for the time being, but still only as a temporary workaround was to use my Razer Viper (which doesn't have the 4 nicely accessible extra buttons on top like the Logitech G300S, or Roccat Leadr) and make the scroll wheel only act as a scroll wheel while holding down "hypershift" then as regular action, the scroll wheel would be mapped as scroll/tilt Left/Right (which are not inputs HARDCODED by the game, but ALSO.. they are not usable/mappable for another whatever stupid reason.. but that's besides the point.. ) This way, I still have my regular scroll for the menus and zoomin In/Out on the map for ex. (while holding down "hypershift.. ) and with X-Mouse Button Control I have mapped the Tilt Left/Right to Keys "1" and "2"..

As you can imagine, this is a stupid and cumbersome setup and it requires me to have 2 extra programs running in the background, namely, X-Mouse Button Control (which I have to also close after I'm finished playing because creating an RE4 profile simply won't recognize the game.. ) and Razer Synapse (as mapping Tilt Left/Right on the Scroll Wheel is not supported on the on-board memory, but only in software, while Synapse is running in the background.. ) All of this because of STUPID INPUT DESIGN!..

I really liked the weapon selection system in this game. Being able to tap twice to toggle weapon slots IS GREAT. had a key on my keyboard next to my index finger bound to toggle between flash and kerplosive grenades, index finger button on mouse to toggle pistols and thumb button on mouse to toggle shotgun and rifle. I never really needed more than 6 weapon slots but I did have my final slot bound to another mouse finger toggle which I rarely needed. Honestly I wish more games had systems like this.

Wheel scrolling weapons? Way too slow and inaccurate.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Just give us an option to disable scroll to CYCLE through weapons AND give us the option to map/bind scroll up/down to whatever actions we want, including two weapon slots (NOT CYCLING through them)
