Should i sell my Handgun?

I mean, i was thinking and maybe handgun is kinda unnecessary, i mean, for short-range combat i can use as well a shotgun, and for long-range i can use rifle.
Now after getting a LE5 i think that i might not need my Blacktail anymore, and might as well replace it with magnum Killer7

You can sell your handgun (as in that's a viable strat).

You could sell your handgun, but considering the blacktail occupies only 4 slots, and that handgun ammo is the most frequent loot you get from non-RNG loot sources, you could keep it for shooting treasures or small threats.

Kept my handgun throughout both my playthroughs, the starter one is really good as it crits alot, and the blacktail apparently is the best, just need the mod that let's you attach the lasersight.

Like BaLuX said, I would keep it. You're not going to get anywhere near enough magnum ammo for everything, and there are plenty of enemies where a magnum would be complete overkill anyway.

I don't know which handgun is best, but my top picks would be the starting one or DLC one for crits, Matilda for pure DPS or Red 9 for damage per shot. Blacktail is a decent all-rounder.

LE9 is good when fully upgraded. But I still think having a pistol as your main weapon is best because it's the most abundant ammo in the game and crafting it is the cheapest. Swap out that black tail for the Red 9, it's the best. Like 2 headshots many enemies in hardcore. Save your other weapons for bigger enemies where there's an advantage, or when you run out of pistol ammo. I assume since you have LE9 (shame there's no stock for it but at least it needs less space) so you've already past the point you get a Red 9 in a chest, or you sold it. The treasure map should've led to it but you can't go back. Maybe consider buying it back from the merchant.

Blacktail is the best gun in the game hands down. That is if you can aim.
