Storage is pointless
I would prefer to carry guns and store extra items, but Capcom wants it the other way around and it makes no sense to me.

You don't really need that many guns on you at one time. One handgun, one shotgun, one SMG, one rifle, the Bolt Thrower if you want it, and one magnum. As long as you keep expanding the attache case space as you progress, you'll have more than enough room to carry a few grenades, extra knives, plenty of healing items, and resources/gunpowder for crafting if you run low on ammo.

Ok fair enough, but what about storage? My storage is always empty and I do have to occasionally sluff extra items. Do you store extra guns? I always sell guns if I'm not using them. What's the point of storage if I can't put items in there?

I wish I can put herbs in storage as I tend to be overloaded with them.

Put First Aid sprays in storage when you get them, and sell extra G+R+Y herbs for 10k (20k with beetle charm)

that way you get to store full heals and get some nice cash infusion later in the game when maxed, or early if you intend to rush upgrading guns and max hp later

i just put first aid sprays in there when i have no space left for other stuff, or the free red9/le5 and krauser's knife to sell later

While it may seem frustrating to have limited storage space in a game like Resident Evil, it is actually a deliberate design choice by the developers. The limited storage space adds an extra layer of challenge and strategy to the gameplay, forcing players to carefully consider what items they want to carry with them and what they can leave behind. It also adds to the realism of the game, as in real life, you can only carry so much with you at once. Additionally, it encourages players to be more resourceful and creative in finding ways to overcome obstacles, rather than relying solely on their firepower. So while it may be tempting to want to carry more guns and items, the limited storage space ultimately adds to the overall gameplay experience.

There is a few things to consider but the storage design is good here.

Storage of only certain items means...

You can't stockpile resources and have infinite inventory space at your convenience. A core element of survival horror is usually managing resources. They made an exception for intelligent preservation of first aid sprays which can be stored for a rainy day backup and puts emphasis on utilizing herbs first and not wasting sprays willy nilly.

You can store extra weapons you aren't using, of which there are enough to fill your case like 3-4x over with just weapons and nothing else.

Storing extra weapons helps boost getting ammo you want. Ammo is dropped from enemies, boxes, barrels based on the weapons you are holding. The recommended setup is no more than 3 weapons unless absolutely needed for a specific purpose (ex grabbing bolt thrower to kill mendez or chainsaw sisters trick). This means you are reinforcing ammo drop rng towards the weapons you prefer and want ammo for the most. Note: Magnum ammo drop rate is trash and not worth carrying a magnum hoping to get it. You will only feel dumb carrying a magnum the entire game to realize u got 2-5 bullets for it from drops. Almost all of its ammo is preset on the at specific spots as static guaranteed ammo every playthrough.

You can make magnum ammo yourself, though. I was not wasteful with it and always had magnum ammo when I needed it, at least on Normal. Sure, you don't have to carry the magnum gun around all the time if you only want to use it at specific moments anyways, but don't see the harm, either.

All fair points, only difference being that I sell weapons I'm not using for extra cash to upgrade the ones I am. Thus, my storage is always empty except for the occasional spray. Maybe I should be saving more guns but I don't really see the point of that.

Reminder: There was no Storage box in OG RE4.

Let's be grateful they allow us to store weapons and first aid sprays.

I'm guessing storage is for "gun collectors" for multiple playthroughs because guns can be upgraded far beyond what you can afford in a single playthrough. Perhaps it adds replayability. At this point, I have no intention of a second playthrough so I guess the storage mechanic isn't intended for me, which is fine.

well you can store first aid spray in it, so you can bolster a pro run for cat ears.
but i gues that doesn't mean much to you and thats fine.
