Debate about Dubbing

There seems to be a lot of dissatisfaction with the English dubbing of Ada recently.
Although I don't entirely agree, there are a few things I'd like to say to the voice actress after learning about her subsequent statements.
「You should feel ashamed. As a fellow Asian, I didn't initially think your English dubbing was that bad, and even thought you shouldn't have faced these biased comments until your subsequent backlash
When did you become the first Asian voice actor for Ada? Were all the previous Japanese voice actors just invisible? Not to mention that Ada was never portrayed as a kind and virtuous character. Didn't you do your homework before doing the voice acting? It's no wonder you're being criticized for being unprofessional and not understanding the context and character's background. Or do you think you're so great that you can change a character's established portrayal over the past 20 years? You must really think highly of yourself, a legend in the voice acting industry.
Just bringing up racial discrimination and attacking long-time fans shows that even if your initial voice acting wasn't bad, you deserve to be criticized. After this incident, I went back to listen to your performance and it was really bland, comparable to an amateur's. Your lack of professionalism is evident. Please don't let your personal issues ruin a classic game character, even though we can switch to the original Japanese voice acting.」

I agree 100% in everything you said dustsword and i hope she doesn't come back to voice anymore future projects for resident evil. That being said i doubt she'll read your post or even care what anyone in here says.

I play without VO. It is very nice to read too. Ppl should do it more.

This whole thing sucks because it spun way out of control. Ada's performance sucked in this game. It happens. If the actress had just said "this is what the director wanted" or "sorry I'll do better in the DLC" or just said nothing at all, it would have just been another "oopsie" that we forget about later. Instead she wanted to fight back, which in turn made everyone else come at her way harder, and now it's a big stupid thing for no real reason.

Not to blame the actress for her own harassment, but what happened is this went from being 2 minutes worth of dull voice acting, to a massive internet wide political culture war. Again, for zero reason. This was extremely unfortunate because 1 tiny difference could have prevented all of it.

OP's comment is 100% accurate and should really be approved by everyone.
It's how everyone that is sane feels.

Lily Gao had an unremarkable performance, got criticised for it, and replied by using racist political comments, insulting the entire RE community. It was a bad reaction, regardless how whiny a community can be (as a Japanese director said...That just shows the dedication of the fan base and should be praised).

She really does sound like the kind of actor that doesn't really care or respect the artform she is covering (Resident Evil and its fandom). That's very sad.

In fact, if the method to avoid harassment is to attack others, what makes her different from those who attacked her? It's only natural to receive criticism for poor job performance when you're being paid to do a job. I hope you can approach any feedback from your boss with the same positive attitude.
As an Asian person, I don't even want to be represented by her. Have you considered the position of the Asian voice actors who came before her?They do not even exist in this world by Lily's statement. It's really disrespectful.

All I know is I don't like her performance as Ada, it was a major downgrade from REmake 2 and RE4 before it. I don't like Wesker's voice either, the actor is too generic for the role but at least it's acted well.
That's the one thing that's annoyed me about this Ada situation is that the Wesker voice is bad as well but it's getting no attention because everyone is obsessing over Ada.
