How to install:
Install REFramework;
(Windows only) Install REFramework Direct2D;
* On Steam Deck/Linux/Proton/Wine: skip this step. REFramework Direct2D MUST NOT be installed for the mod to work.
Download the mod;
Extract the mod from the archive and place it in Resident Evil 4 folder. Final path should look like this: /RESIDENT EVIL 4 BIOHAZARD RE4/reframework/autorun/Health_Bars.lua
For customization: press Insert key to open/close REFramework menu, then press Script-generated UI tab, then press Health Bars button.
The install instructions are from the main page on nexus
<Games Library>\RESIDENT EVIL 4 BIOHAZARD RE4\dinput8.dll
<Games Library>\RESIDENT EVIL 4 BIOHAZARD RE4\reframework\autorun\Health_Bars.lua
<Games Library>\RESIDENT EVIL 4 BIOHAZARD RE4\reframework\autorun\reframework-d2d.lua
<Games Library>\RESIDENT EVIL 4 BIOHAZARD RE4\reframework\plugins\reframework-d2d.dll
Yes. Windows 10. Okay so basically I still need to install 2 more mods.
1. RE Framework 2d
2. Health Bars mod
I'd rather confirm before I start. Do I have this correct?
And by the way, what else can REFramework do? I see lots of settings but I'm not sure what any of this means. Is it bare bones by default?
************
Side note: I'd rather avoid installing anything else I don't need to install for now. Distortion2's game was crashing with mods (I'm assuming FMM and graphics mods, I don't know bc he didn't say). I realize this is system specific or possibly he was using raytracing or something which some are saying causes memory leaks that lead to crashes, but I'd rather not make my game unstable for something I won't be using yet. I'll consider Fluffy Mod Manager in the future.
I did install it years ago for REmake Remastered for the door skip so I'm not averse to it, just not yet. Maybe after I'm done with my challenge runs and enemy HP testing.
While the module will be enabled by default, don't be surprised if you won't see any health bars right away. This is because of the following options that are enabled by default:
1. Hide if Dead
2. Hide if Full health
And
3. Hide if no ray to player < This means that the enemy has to have line of sight to you (This is mainly so that you don't cheat your way by seeing enemies hidden behind obstacles)
There are several things you can do. For starters I'd suggest you also use the dlss mod that enables you to enable DLSS, assuming you have a DLSS compatible nVidia card, but that also requires some mild (but easy) setup.
Okay thanks, I'll install them both in a little while.
I actually don't like DLSS, you're downsampling the image and using AI to recontruct more pixels. It's a great piece of tech when it's necessary (low fps), but I have enough GPU power at 3440x1440 to spare that I'm actually running the game at 110% Image Quality to prevent aliasing.
When I need DLSS, for example ray tracing games that use it effectively, like Control which uses reflections extensively or Metro Exodus Enhanced which has amazing Global Illumination, it's a godsend because the GPU has to render things that are offscreen in order to even display raytraced reflections, shadows, and proper lighting. Without ray tracing, the GPU is just rendering the scene itself.
RE Engine games don't make much use of raytracing though, and so I leave it off and without raytracing, the engine runs remarkably well. So for RE Engine games, I prefer to leave it off entirely and enjoy the crisp visuals of increased pixel density.
Is there anything else that REFramework can do for RE4 that is cool? The menu isn't very self explanatory and I don't want to mess with things that could break the game.
Is there a free camera mode to look around the map?

REframework is fairly taxing to a extent, as it loading module. I not really noticed a FPS decrease, then again, I play in a lower res, as my monitor supports so high.
also, another note is, the game will take longer to load, the more saves that you have. That is an engine problem. (thought I would mention it just in case you don't know)
Reframework is been worked on, so it might be a while before it gets better optimised. And depending on the mods, some might not be that optimised either. But there are some great mods on nexus, especailly those that are trying to correct the game's many faults. Including gun handling. (AWF and dynamic weapons profiles) both are worth a look.
