Remake2 is a close second for the same reasons, albeit there was some disappointment in the B-scenarios feeling a tad rushed compared to OG2 and there was more potential there.
Remake3 is a very fun and tight experience, but it's objectively much more narrow than OG3 and misses so much of what made OG3 a great open sprawl.
finally someone that think 3R is a bad remake to the og but admit that is fun as a game...
"a great remake should not replace its original, it should supplement it" you are the first person i met that actually understeands a remake, i had this thing with some people on re4 remake and with black mesa and others remakes, finally someone that understeand that
Or just straight up a downgraded alternative.
Can you tell me some specific examples?
Ok, take a 🥤too if you want
Enjoy...
But since you are here on this thread what do you prefer 2, 3 or 4 remakes?
You said to ignore whether or not each game is a good remake, so I will. I'll just judge them based on being their own games.
The thing about it is that, just like with the original games, RE2 and RE3 are in a different genre from RE4. 2 and 3 are survival horror, whereas 4 is survival action. Enemies in 2 and 3 are meant to be resource dumps that force you to make decisions and expend supplies, whereas enemies in 4 are there for you to fight them. It's okay if you spend resources fighting enemies in 4, since you'll get something back in return.
But I think if I were to rank them, it'd probably be RE4 > RE2 > RE3. RE4's action is just so good, especially on Professional difficulty. The ammo economy, parry system, and melee attacks all work together so that you're making decisions in the heat of battle, constantly adjusting your positioning and tactics as necessary. Getting the hang of dodging grabs via crouching or setting up enemies for a knife assassination from the front to ensure they're dead just adds to the depth. On top of that, the guns just feel good to use. It's a great experience.
None of this is to say that 2 or 3 is a bad experience for not having these things, far from it. They're just different. Having to manage resources and save room trips on Hardcore difficulty in RE2 is great. It does a fantastic job of feeding you enough resources to keep you well stocked if you know what you're doing and don't just blindly waste them, while still having more than enough cushion for your to expend resources at will here and there. Choosing when and how to deal with enemies, and what weapon to use on those enemies, is always a fun decision to try to be as careful as possible with. RE3 falls on the more action side of things, but still has enough of this stuff to keep it interesting, plus the dodge roll mechanic feels great.
RE3 Remake is better than people would have you believe. It was disappointing and could have been better, but the hyperbole is out of control with people saying it's "trash" or whatever.
RE4 Remake is an outstanding remake of an outstanding game. However, RE4 is where the series ventured off into action shooter territory. For me, the original trilogy (1/2/3) will always be my favorites.
Also, the downgrades in characters personalities, their designs, and their dialogue which are devoid of any charisma and memorable lines, are what make the remakes worse than the originals. See, people still play originals and remember the iconic designs of the characters, and their classic and iconic lines, 20 YEARS LATER.
No one remembers fondly any of the remakes characters and their new designs - because their plain and boring, devoid of personality. Same for their dialogue. Name one line of dialogue in the remake people will remember fondly 20 years from now. You can't.
