It’s a singleplayer game, why the ♥♥♥♥ do I need to be online?

PC has no wifi adapter, just hardline, and my internet is down. Typing this on my phone.

How can I get around this outside of doing something illegal? Sick of AAA games requiring always online

It doesn't require always online. It needs to verify your install is legit.

ehmm, it support 100% the steam offline mode, you no need internet to play

just test yourself you can play the game totally offline, the only thing that don't work without internet is the optional option in the game to track you progress in the resident evil website, just disbale it if you so wish.

If I hadn't tried it, why would I be making a post about it? Game won't let me play and I put the exact error message it gave me in the title

the initial login check is due to denuvo, and capcom always remove denuvo after a few years , and the online stuff is the optional option you check the game to connect the re.net just disable that in the settings should let you play

steam offline mode is almost forever, i travelled to a farm for 3 months without internet and steam offline mode did not hurt me so even if it have a limit its bigger than 3 months.

that seems to be a really problem, it don't make sense to need to be online to disable the online thing thats bad. hope they fix this and hope you get internet soon to disable this.

The people that upload them do. So, actually it is illegal. Hate to burst your fragile bubble but yeah. Also, I mean really downloading a game you didn't pay for is technically stealing.
