I actually stopped to hear what new Ashley had to say. With old Ashley, I stuffed her in a dumpster most of the time.

The scene where she's crying about stabbing Leon and he jokes by saying "at least warn me next time you're going to stab me" made me smile. It felt so real with him saying "it's okay to be afraid, you know, but you can't run."

Good writing in that scene. One of my favorites in the game.
yup. i agree completely. so before we played the remake, about a week before we went back through the original re4 again, and theres a lot of moments that seem kind of derpy, or the reasoning feels flimsy. like when you get separated in the castle. in the remake they try to give context or make sure theres a good reason for it to happen. like before ashley freaks out and just splits. in the remake, you know the parasite takes control of her for a second, her losing control and hurting leon is a good reason to freak out and run. the trap in the cage is not them splitting up, but just that, a trap, which makes way for new content like the entire section with Ashley blinding the knights as they chase you around below, checking to make sure she did not burn you, or the section you play AS ashley and get to see what she has to go through to try to reunite with leon. i had to explain to a friend yesterday that crowbcats video was full of ♥♥♥♥, because he thought they removed stuff when in reality the stuff like the parasite breaking out of the guys chest is just in another room, a different layout, rather than removed. what an a genuinely disingenuous video that guy made.

Ah, Crowbcat. The guy who thinks turning down the brightness intentionally somehow makes the game look worse because it's made darker on purpose. That video was funny with how biased it is.

Old good, new bad. Me no like new. Me want old. Why old gone? Old was my friend!

this is the last thing ill say on the matter, and its that remakes don't erase the original. its ok to like both.

For me personally, I can't really go back to the original when the remake fixed so many of the oldschool mechanics that don't really feel so good today.

They may not erase the original, but how many times have you heard people say "oh don't bother with x, there's a remake coming in a few months" or "I saw there was an older and newer version of the game so I just decided to go with the newer one". They may not erase the games for older fans, but they frequently end up being the new player's introduction to the series, and it is much harder to go from new to old than old to new.

Didn't you say you were never a fan of the original? From hundreds of posts I've seen from you here and even on the og's forum you haven't said a single thing you love about original.

Remake still didn't include a ton of original's content no matter if crowbcat made a few mistakes or not. Remake doesn't include whole sections of the castle even after the SW addon, like the lava room. They brought back U3 but didn't bother bringing back the hanging containers which were an awesome setpiece in the original and arguably even more memorable than the U3 fight after you pass them.

On the writing side - remake turned Leon from a confident chad into a wuss sadboy awkwardly spewing one-liners that fall completely flat. The writing is also incredibly sterile and safe as to not offend the easily offended modern sensible crowd. Apparently it's a big no-no in 2023 for an M rated game with blood, guts and literal beheadings. All this puts a bad taste in my mouth because once you notice it, it spoils the game.

No, that wasn't me. I've always liked the OG, but after playing the remake, the OG is just too old mechanically to enjoy like I used to.

I mean, if we're talking strictly gameplay mechanics, the remake is superior to the OG.

Moving and shooting.
Real-time weapon switching.
Melee parries.

He's learned to strafe. I'm so proud of him.

Just a shame we lost the old aiming style to get that stuff. I woulda loved to see them implement a setting where you could toggle between the new and old aiming reticle system.

And call me nuts, but I like that a headshot on hardcore doesn't automatically guarantee a follow up into a melee. It keeps things unpredictable.

not only it keeps things unpredictable but it also prevents the abuse of kicks

You mean the laser sight? Some weapons have it, and I'm almost certain there's a mod on Nexus for it.

There's also a mod on Nexus that makes the automatic rifle uses SMG rounds.

Yep. I agree with that.

No no, the old aiming system where you moved the reticle around the screen. Not many games that do that nowadays, but I find it is a massive help with motion sickness personally.

So the stop and pop design of the original? The same one in RE5?
