Separate Ways feels more enjoyable than the main game
this is my opinion, you're welcome to disagree, and Jesters are pretty much free points to spend on stuff I want, rather than being a shot at my pride, so do with that as you please.

yes, it's definitely shorter than the main game. and your weapon selection is lesser as well. finally, the only real new mechanics is the grapple hook and retina system, which these two work together as one sometimes anyway. aside from that, everything else is about the same mechanically wise.

but the positives outweigh these negatives.

SW does a decent job balancing between all three environments throughout the playthrough. whether you prefer one environment more over the others, you get an equal mix of everything. shorter playthrough, but if you take your time exploring and gathering all the treasure/loot, the DLC can last a good couple of hours.

her weapon selection is a bit lesser than Leon's, but she has an overall solid kit. in fact, you can pretty much get by with her starting weapons: the TMP, Blacktail and Bolt Action SR. all these weapons kick so much ass, and you don't have to spend a single peseta for any of them.

I don't know what it is, but I've rarely ever had ammo issues since the DLC is really generous with gunpowder and resource S/L drops. for some reason I didn't have much luck with this in the main game, making me feel more careful about my shots. probably just bad luck?

her grapple hook is dope as hell. being able to initiate a melee from a decent range is god tier, given that you're covered in i-frames the whole time, getting you out of sticky situations. and yoinking enemy shields from their hands... chef's kiss.

plus, not having to babysit someone who can't fight back is a huge weight off the shoulders, if you're not running armored/invincible Ashley mods.

finally, more Luis. much more Luis is good. that is likable.

main game is great fun, but I just prefer SW a bit more because of these reasons. which of the two campaigns do you personally prefer?

I enjoyed the Separate Ways more, because I did not have to control Ashley.

I liked them both fairly equally. Separate Ways completes the game imo. It's like with RE2 where you've got a Leon route and a Claire route... Well with RE4 you've got a Leon route and an Ada route. I love the weapon selection of Leon's route, but also LOVED the grapple hook with Ada. Being able to pull shields off shielded enemies from across the area or initiation a melee was fantastic. Being able to easily get out of range by grappling up on roofs was always a nice thing. Certainly made the Gigante fight a breeze though.

i felt that too
not sure if it's because i've been away from RE4 for so long

gameplay wise SW just gives you few guns to start at the mob

main game was so padded with running and adventuring and cutscenes to present a narrative, mind you it was really great
SW isn't bogged by that

but tbh so little of the 'story' in SW makes any sense to me

Ada is my second favorite RE character (after Jill), plus her DLC is really incredible in this remake so yeah, I really love it, more than the original campaign too.

Objectively, the main game has more to offer and is better, but enjoyment-wise I can understand if SW feels more enjoyable and its kinda true, SW is a bite-sized more focused RE4 pretty much, you don't need to worry too much about spending money, exploration etc., I felt the same feeling as you, its cause there's just enough amount of RE4 to satisfy us for 4 hours. Ada is also awesome in general, her moves, her grapple gun, her jiggle physics, are all a feast for the eyes.

SW feels like it embraced the action part of the game more than the main campaign.
Outside of Pro mode, I'm struggling to recall an instance where I couldn't use shotguns, snipers, etc liberally in SW just from being able to craft ammo consistently what with the generous resource drops/ pickup spots all around.

Going back to main campaign and practically only ever getting a few shots worth of ammo for anything that aren't handguns and being in broke city in terms of gunpowders and resources made it less enjoyable overall.

TLDR; SW feels like it knows want it wants to be, moreso than the main campaign.

agree 100% SW is a more focused condensed version of re4, its a remix of the best parts with some welcome improvements that's more digestible than the main game because of its shorter length , i love that ada feels like a super hero with all the crazy action stuff, dlc ada feels like OG leon, dodging lasers, grapple hooking in and out of danger, attack on titan slaying el giantes its awesome
I wouldn't say better, but they included everything they cut from the remake, which is great. Definitely better than the original separate ways, that's for sure.

Now where's assignment ada?

its because after playing the regular game 20 times through, the ashley segment, and other puzzle segments get very tedius, as do the cutscenes,

having a fresh campaign, with limited puzzles, cutscenes, and adventuring, makes for a nice return to RE4, also they found a way to bring back all the cut content we were salty about.

the perfect sendoff for RE4 remake,

time for RE5!

Meh. Black robes is boring, the giant is boring, and I feel like after the main campaign I'm way more annoyed at the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game do (teleporting grab and whatnot).

Everyone praise the price of this dlc, but seriously Ada was in the files at release and everything is just an asset flip with the same encounters (just like the original, ok but still).

The worst thing about Separate Ways is obviously the fact that they gave her a TMP instead of an exclusive upgrade ticke from the start, the TMP being complete ass given the fact that, although it deals good damage, its damage is only passable when it's fully upgraded, and you barely get enough ammo for it to be a decent dps weapon, this combined with the high cost and a pitiful 30 bullets per craft makes it the ultimate oh-god-why-did-I-max-out-this-♥♥♥♥ fully upgraded deadweight in my inventory i regret not selling at the start.

i would have prefered a custom blacktail with built in laser sight, rather than the punisher/red9 choices we got

I feel the games definitely compliment each other. For myself, I think the story comes through stronger now with the DLC.

Seeing how they merge together and I never played the OG.
Trash opinion. As usual.
