Blacktail vs Red9?

Which is better for Hardcore/Professional?

I kind of can't stand the reticle on the Red9. It takes forever to focus and if you don't wait the accuracy sucks. The stock helps a bit, but I still prefer other guns. The plus side is that it's essentially as strong as a rifle once you get the 1.5x damage multiplier.

Blacktail is slightly less powerful but has a way better reticle. Smaller ammo capacity hurts a bit but the better accuracy probably balances out. Takes up only 4 spaces too instead of 10 with the Red9 plus stock. Biggest drawback is that it's not available until halfway through the game so I'd either have to use the Red9 until then or stick with the starting pistol.

I don't think any of the other pistols are viable, except maybe the starting pistol with the 5x crit, but again that isn't available until about halfway through the game and is luck based.

Don't even see topics that often about the other gun variants, just the Pistols.

Red9's my first playthrough goto pistol. I'll expriment with other guns after I start a NG+ run to see which ones I prefer.

I used the Blacktail and had no issues with it, also loved having more accuracy and a bit more of briefcase space.

I picked the Red9 in new game Pro and I hated it. But I'm gonna do it until the end of the run for the sake of people claiming 4ever glory to Red9.

Edit : I picked Matilda in new game Hardcore and I absolutely loved it. I purposely undersell this gun so people will never jump in the Matilda train. Bruh journalist should stick to their Red9 and nothing else.

Maxed out the RED9 on HC before Verdugo and it's so powerfull ganados take 2 shots in the face and die, or an extra kick does the job. Honestly, I wish I didn't get the exclusive, the game is now on assisted mode of how powerful this is.
Funny, Hardcore in the village is really damn brutal but mid castle you become so strong everything is a breeze, kinda wish basic enemies had extra HP the further you go.

BTW, why do you guys need all the briefcase space?
I run on HC perma the first shotgun, RED9 with stock and the basic rifle. I only have the first briefcase upgrade and never found myself out of space. Sure, if I see a boss coming, I leave the shoty and the typewritter and swap for BB but still...

Blacktail. (I'm doing my initial playthrough on Hardcore - moving toward the endgame now.) When maxed out and exclusive-d, it shreds and reloads almost instantly. Just like the OG, pay attention to the ammo as it's a discount SMG with its firing rate.

Red 9 with stock is pretty good, but with the reticle, it's slightly tougher to stand and shoot. I've noticed the shots going through enemy legs a lot more with this, when they carry Ashley away.

I carried both the Red9 and Blacktail until the end of castle, and realized Blacktail is what does it for me in this game. Why did I carry two handguns? The game was just dropping handgun ammo and even worse, pesetas for me all the time - maybe RNG. There's my story of my spending half the time in the castle with just handguns!

Agree with your assessment.

My guess is everyone is stocking up on vipers and fishies? Maybe many are hoarding all weapons they see like the Boltgun with so much craftables/ammo? I only upgraded the case once, and I can comfortably put in three handguns: Handgun, Blacktail, Red 9 with stock, Riot gun, Stingray, and the TMP. This is on top of 2 healing items, 3-4 knives, 2-3 grenades and a scope for the rifle.

I'm pretty sure the Merchant would agree. it isn't about shooting, it's about reloading. Stripper Clip will always be superior to magazine reloads when it comes to cool factor. Pity the Bolt Action Rifle didn't keep the Stripper Clip animation from the original game. Sadly RE4 Remake's Red 9 has a far more boring reload animation than from the original game. The Original RE4's Red 9 had an epic reload animation.

Just finished the Regenerator spot and was able to get the gems needed to complete two treasures with high value. Used that money to complete both my Red9 and Riot Shotgun.

You are crazy, 3 round burst is a boss slayer. Stagger them until the weak point pops out, run up magdump 30-60 handgun rounds and its over. Literally obsoletes the smgs.
