What handgun should I use for a minimalist(achievement) playthrough?

I am thinking about doing a new playthrough for a new experience, and to get the minimalist achievement, where you´re limited to only handguns and knives, but I have only used the punisher, so I might need a gun with a bit more oomph this time.

Any ideas what I should use, and are you able to use a magnum and grenades as well? Peace.

Handguns and Knives only.

Red 9 is the strongest handgun.

I'm currently doing Minimalist achievement too, I'm using Matilda with Stock paired with Cat ears...it's...it's wondrous experience so far lol

Why not use multiple handguns? Does that not satisfy the rules of the achievement?

I'm curious to know this as well, since you could use Red9 for bosses and SG-09 R for the rest of the enemies that can be crit with headshots.
I think it is possible according to a reddit post.

it's possible, although I wouldn't really bother with it, just get the blacktail. it's more then enough to deal with everything for the playthrough.

so many people get hung up on the Red9 because of it's "highest dmg" the blacktail is only SLIGHTLY weaker, has better rate of fire/reload speed/percision

meaning you don't have to wait as long to get those headshots accurately as even when moving the Blacktail is damn near laser sight accurate, better crowd control, and dealing with bosses.

That's fair, since I also used the Blacktail and liked it enough.
Also don't need an additional accessory that takes a lot of space like the Red9.

I think you can, i.e. a punisher with the penetration perk would be pretty useful against the regenerators, so having a different gun wouldn´t be a bad idea.

Technically I think a magnum is a handgun as well, but from what i have read, they and grenades and eggs apparently disqualify you from getting the acheivement, so I might go for the highest dps gun like the red 9 and maybe be more strategic and use the environmental objects to help me. We´ll see.
