What's with Ada's voice acting?
It sounds like they found some last minute hooker off the street and had her record the lines through a Walmart mic.
Why is it so bad?

Have any of you seen the Resident Evil movie that she was in?

I never saw it and I'm curious if she was better in the film. I know that sometimes being a good actor or actress doesn't always translate to being a good VA.
https://youtu.be/vwjzKGy_r4w?t=37

She's in the end credits scene as an easter egg / teaser for future movie.

She says 6 words and from what I can tell, she sounds identical to how she does in the game at least.

It's just when on her own face, when she's acting the calm and cool spy, her voice works fine because he facial expression matches the tone of voice.

In the game the script keeps flirting and the animations on Ada's face while probably mocapped, still look more expressive than the sound of her voice would imply.
I think she's just a bad actress personally
Thank you both for posting those videos

It's probably too small a sample to determine if she's a good or bad actress. I did notice that she seemed very uncomfortable. She seemed to do fine delivering her lines, but her body language was rigid and unnatural. Especially the mechanical looking turn at around 1;25 in the first video

Sometimes the role just isn't right for the person. She might be much better as another archetype. Or she simply needs more experience. I'm not an expert by any means. :spazdunno:

Heh.

So "she has experience playing Ada Wong in a film" really means, "she played Ada Wong in a post-credits scene that lasted less than 3 minutes."

Which makes me ask again:

Were all the previous Ada VAs unionized? I know it was said that Jolene Andersen (RE2make) is, but Courtenay Taylor actually voiced Ada all throughout the CGI film Damnation (and it's CANON!).

Not sure why Capcom couldn't have hired her outside of their "no union" policy.

And after watching that clip, I'm now glad I never bothered to watch WtRC, since it's pretty clear they completely neutered Wesker.

Wesker in Umbrella Chronicles:

"I was reborn like a phoenix emerging from the flame. I had risen above the human race and cheated death itself, leaving nothing to oppose me."

Wesker in Welcome to Raccoon City:

after a good 30-40 seconds of panting like a cheap XXX star:

"I thought I was dead."

I'm honestly not sure why Capcom keeps going to such lengths to butcher their own canon so horrendously.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. A reboot of the original movie series in a way. Hot take, but I found the first few RE movies with Milla Jovovich to be not that bad. Welcome to Raccoon City bombed so hard even Resident Evil fans don't know it existed.

Why they hired Lily Gao from it is beyond me. Perhaps she was willing to do it for a cheap amount since she's a newer actor (clearly she isn't skilled at VA work). Or Capcom is trying to cross their star power over to their games and paid her a lot to be in the games despite her being a bad VA. I think they had Milla Jovovich do some VA work for Monster Hunter World's monster hunter movie crossover from what I remember.

Reminder for everyone in this thread, just on this topic, that the director of those movies (and husband of Milla Jovovich IIRC) got an actress's arm either ripped off or at least degloved, then blamed her for it and paid her the absolute minimum amount he could legally get away with paying her for the damage she suffered due to his insistence on a scene being as much of a close shave as it could

It was the rigging being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and she lost her arm and very nearly died. Lots of people were ♥♥♥♥ about it, not just the director.

Her voice makes it sounds like she clearly doesn't care, not about Leon, not about her mission.

She sounds "bored" I guess?

Yes and those exact sentiments come out in the game.
Leon doesn't know if she's 'back' or just using him again. Checks out there.
The ending. Checks out.
She has no reason to act like she gives a ♥♥♥♥. She's doing a job. Ada's tone the entire time is bothered, annoyed, etc. Checks out to me. She's on a questionable mission with questionable goals on a run-down island.

Talk to women, I dunno what to tell you. You'd probably complain if she were putting on an act, too. It's a tightrope. You being the exception doesn't change that the majority of complaints are that she isn't jerking people off with her voice, which is absurd.

Lol this dude is hilarious, We don't like her voice acting and find it bad so it must mean we want a voice we can coom to? I guess the professional critics who criticize bad voice acting in other media must also want to coom too huh? Not that they did a horrible job right? Damn dude how does your brain work does it find anything that is against your own taste as offensive? So you have to write condescending ♥♥♥♥ to make yourself feel better?

It's just a more grounded movie.

That's like saying Paul W.S. Anderson's movies are "grounded."

We're literally talking about a franchise involving a virus that can bring the dead back to life as zombies. The quote I provided above from Wesker in The Umbrella Chronicles is literally in reference to his resurrecting post-mortem using a virus.

Let's face it--Resident Evil is sci-fi as all get-out. You've got zombie viruses, A.I., and even James Bond-style satellite lasers.

"A more grounded movie" is not an improvement on the source material; it's just a watered-down version.

Honestly didn't know this, but not surprised to learn that Anderson isn't just a terribly amateurish director, but a terrible human being, as well.

Incompetence seems to be his default setting; Milla should know she can do better.

You just said you didn't see it now you're an expert on it. This is why I'll never take you seriously.

That is not realy true.

Olivia jackson (the stund double of jovovicvh) collided with a camera arm that was mounted to a car. The camera was supposed to move away once she gets close to it. Sadly it didn't worked out and she craashed into it while riding a motorcycle. She lost an arm and had several other lifethereating injuries.

Responsible is not Anderson but the people working for the safety during the filming.
Olivia won a court case against the 2 people responsible for the stunt. Those tried to blame the fault on Olivia.

It was said that anderson adviced the safety guys to lower the "safety measurements" to get a better shot. But anderson is not directly resaponsible. Anderson knows jackshiit about stunts which is the reason there are people on set exacxtly for this reason. And they are responsible in the end. Especialy since they didn't involved Olivia into the decision to alter the stunt.

At least that is what i have seen about this accident.

You just said you didn't see it now you're an expert on it. This is why I'll never take you seriously.

Well, no, you'll "never take me seriously" because you insist on outright lying or deliberately misinterpreting my comments.

I never claimed to be an "expert" on Welcome to Raccoon City. I'm certainly never going to claim to be an "expert" on a movie I myself haven't seen.

But I have played the Resident Evil games for years, so yes--I do consider myself knowledgeable enough about the source material.

And it's sad how painfully-obvious a simple 1-2-minute scene makes it clear that WtRC takes just as much of a dump on the source material as Anderson's films (which I have seen, by the way).

But, you know...keep lying and seeing things through your own prejudicial lens, whatever makes you feel better.

It's why I'll never take you seriously, though.
I'm not into the whole "game is woke" political bs but I do kinda have to agree that her VA is odd af. It's not even the same as RE2 Remake and honestly I thought her actress was perfect then. I dunno what happened, why her prior voice actress decided against reprising her role or why they chose this new one.
No offense to her (the new actress) but she really REALLY just doesn't sound the part. It's like one of the only big gripes I have with the game.
I like how true they kept Leon, Luis and Hunnigan, I'm also okay with the new Krauser and new Ashley imho is superior to the old one in every way.
It's just Ada, her character and dialogue is fine, it's not her lines that put me off. It's just her voice and overall tone, it really is distracting.
Not really something that completely ruins the game but it's not ideal either.
