It's got really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ dps compared to other pistols because the fire rate is so low, which matters a lot because you usually cant stagger enemies in one shot anymore.
I use 1.1 firepower Sentinel Nine and it takes 4 shots to stagger a ganado for a melee follow up. You best make your decision on which pistol to ramp up firepower as soon as possible, be it Red9 or Sentinel Nine. (On pro you are allow to ramp up upgrade straight pass Lv3). Its going to be 2.7fp for Red9 or 1.9fp Sentinel Nine. Make your choice mate. Don't tell me bullshet about exclusive because its not realistic to even talk about acquiring it so soon still in village.
Red 9 has bad accuracy, takes up tons of space, and isn't what it used to be damage wise, with the upgrade it maxes out at 4.
No, it isn't, but there is not much enemies, that can be crit easy later on. And it works strange on bosses. I prefered DLC gun, cos of it's big mag. But for full run anyway there were only like 40? 50? pistol kills.
If it's the one where you can't use bonus weapons as you're going for Handcannon - then you don't really need an Exclusive Ticket so you can get laser sight instead.
I found the starter pistol works best because of crit chance. I mean, on Professional enemies are sponges and pistols are garbage as a result. But since it takes you 4 headshots to off an enemy on Professional, you'll see crits much more often statistically. It will also help a bit with saving ammo. Oh and it pairs well with Wolf Tail - if you didn't crit then you likely opened him for melee at some point.
If it's Professional S+ then you want an Exclusive Ticket to get infinite ammo on Handcannon or at least Chicago as soon as you reach the castle. Meaning you won't be getting the laser sight, and without it you'll be waiting for the reticle to close forever. In this case I'd go for Red9 with firepower upgrades and just shoot center of mass. It also helps that during the cabin siege your pistol ammo is essentially infinite thanks to Luis.
Punisher is pretty cool and the recoil is low, very balanced, however situations where you can lineup a bunch of enemies are not too common. Piercing shields is useful during castle, but at the island shields become metal ones, so.
Even SG09 kills them in two shots tbh.
Another matter is pistols use S resource, limiting what you could potentially use for shotguns and even magnums.
Sure, but then I would have to buy and max upgrade another hand gun. Instead I spend my money on upgrading the damage of all my other guns to max. This is on hardcore, so money is premium. Arguably the black tail is better, but for me its not that much better to justify the cost.
