G-Sync 144Hz monitor: need to change this game to 1080p

I think it’s time to bite the bullet and lower to 1080p to enjoy the game more… how does that work with a 144Hz monitor?

What should I change my in-game settings to?

Keep at 144Hz and Variable FPS and just change resolution?

I need guidance as I’ve never gone back down to 1080p in any game since I got this monitor over 2 years ago.

Btw, you don't specify your monitors native resolution, but I assume it's 1440p, since you mentioned "lower it to 1080p".

I don't really understand OP here. Whether you play on 1080p, 2k, 4k, 8k or whateverk has nothing to do with your refresh rate? Just keep it at whatever you want to or are used to?

just use the maximum Hz your monitor supports at 1080p and in game variable refresh and then outside of game either in nvidia or rviia tuner set a global limit of 3fps below your maximum Hz setting. SO if your max is 144, set the fps limiter to 141.

yes either use nvidia control panel or afterburner with RTSS to limit your fps to 3 below your maximum refresh rate. this will allow for gsync to never turn off should for any reason the fps go up that high.

I don’t like to tinker with settings outside of the game itself.. I’ve never had to do that and don’t really want to start. What’s wrong with just doing what others have said - keep 144Hz and just lower to 1080p with variable FPS?

Because the game doesnt have FPS cap.
It will force runs on max FPS if you dont set V-sync and limit background app in Nvidia control panel outside of the game too.
(and yes you need to turn V-sync in the game on too)
From what I said above, it just made your system throttle the performance than it actually requires. (this happens in the start menu,pause menu and while the app is running in the background)

well if it ever reaches 144 gsync will turn off and you will likely get tearing.
its a trick really to get gsync to never turn off. gsync is not a software feature, its a hardware feature and needs to be configured thusly. up to you really.
there is also added input lag if gsync is disabled for any reason.
