Sorry, what I meant was "I do not want her to follow me at all. I want her to stop and stand exactly where I tell her." That is to say - exactly what you could do in the original so that you can park her before parts where she will very clearly be in the way.
Or in my case, she immediately runs right into the group of Ganados I'm fighting, just as I've thrown a grenade.
And you can't get her to stop following, not in this version.
This game is ok on its own.
It's really bad compared to the original.
I can't find a single change they've made that I like. Protecting Ashley was the worst part of the original. What made it manageable was being able to park her or put her in a container where she would be out of the way.
I love that in this version they went ahead and did away with both of things that made her vaguely less annoying.
I would say they are both great games, but this one blows RE4 (2005) out of the water from a gameplay standpoint. But that is to be expected when you have 18 more years of mainstream video game development to build off of.
For me, I can't find a single gameplay change they made that I dislike in this one. What I do miss though, is some of the sections that were removed or redesigned from the original. The castle, especially, is quite different.
How I mean it: get on my ass and stay there.
How she interprets it: Follow 20 meters behind. Check out the scenery. ♥♥♥♥ around. Get stuck on a twig. Then get lifted off and carried away.
You like the new Ashley management?
In this case the randomness if I can say adds to the experience to me. Past design was too easy and simple. Seeing her go on around and sometimes get in the sights of Leon with him telling her that she's in the way adds up for me, the volatility of the situation is more layers of fun in my book.
Add to this that they removed the speed reduction the ganados suffer when carrying her and it gets a bit frustrating sometimes. Her AI may be capable of more, and she's much better written ( actually i like her overall design better ) but the AI cannot handle combat. It needs a pass.
When you tell her to stick close she will constantly lag behind, or sprint very quickly to catch up then completely stop moving for a second to which she's fallen behind again. Ashley in the classic game stuck within 3 feet of leon if you said follow me. That's what needs to happen. This makes things more difficult than they really need to be.
with this you now have to watch and pay attention for everything around you. you have to pay attention to where ashley is and where the enemies are coming from. the plus side is that she has no health bar and really isnt attacked anymore like in the og.
I have also noticed that she often does not seem to run away. I always keep her on follow closely. In the other mode she just tends to stand, scream, get captured, except be further from me when it happens.
I haven't had too many issues with it. And it's not like you could always put her in a dumpster whenever you wanted in the original either.
