You can get Spinels randomly but my guess is you might get 6-10 that way per playthrough whereas most side quests give you 3-5 each and are easy to do.
The only one that sucks is when you're inside the castle, there is a mission where you have to throw an egg at a portrait. So if you didn't keep an egg from the village, you're forced to either throw the golden egg that you find in the same room, or wait for the 2 chickens RNG to spawn an egg, which could take a long time to just sit and wait. So make sure to always keep 1 white or brown egg on you at all times until you find this.
