I'm in Chapter 10 and I'm enjoying the hell out of RE4R, but RE2 and RE2R will always be very special to me.
Well I beat RE3R 100%, in less than 3 hours on the hardest difficulty, So that game clearly does not go on any pedestal.
Re4 just feels like an old game. It's fun still, but I prefer the way the original played. The remake allows you to move and shoot but you move so slowly you might as well not be able to move and shoot at all. Also the environments are more detailed, but so small. Leon can barely fit in some hallways. I get it's more realistic, but more janky moving around. The prompt to vault over fences also doesn't come up when the fence is slightly higher or lower so when you run to a fence you have to kind of run into it and slide one or two feet until the prompt appears which makes the game feel awkward. The camera is slow and running from enemies makes it so you can't see where you are going at times that the 2nd person camera from the original makes more sense.
It like tries to replicate all the systems of Re4 original but does them worse. It's not a bad game, but it's a step down for me as well.
The Re4 gameplay is so good that even in this clumsy form it's still pretty fun when it's working.
RE2R is great but I feel like the OG RE2 is superior. This game, so far, is roughly equal to the OG.
